AMD has revealed the launch date of its Ryzen 9000X3D lineup, scheduled for next month. The new processor is once again advertised as the gaming king, which is enough to get any tech enthusiast’s blood pumping.
It seems that the rumoured dates for Ryzen 9000X3D were wrong,\ or that AMD changed its mind to avoid Intel’s imminent Core Ultra 200K launch. Regardless, it’s now official; the 3D V-Cache-infused chips are coming on November 7. The announcement also reads ‘X3D Reimagined’, potentially hinting at the dual CCD (Core Chiplet Die) models. These have been previously rumoured to include 3D V-Cache on both chiplets, unlike all X3D variants until now.
AMD didn’t share any information about performance or specs during its announcement, but a new leak can fill in the gaps. An AnandTech forum user has shared benchmark results for an alleged Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU. In these, we see the processor spitting 62,360 points in Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail and 25,258 points in Cinebench R23. Note, however, that the chip was overclocked using AMD PBO and base clock, which pushed the frequency up to 5.68GHz.
As a reminder, the 9800X3D is rumoured to run at 5.2GHz or 5.4GHz, depending on who you ask. So, a nice but not exceptional overclock, meaning the difference between this and the default behaviour shouldn’t be wide.
Now, compared to the regular Ryzen 7 9700X (with PBO), which also packs eight Zen 5 cores, the X3D part is only 8% faster. Though this looks low, keep in mind that Cinebench R23 doesn’t represent the gaming performance in which 3D V-Cache CPUs shine. Also, a much more realistic uplift compared to Gigabyte’s Turbo Mode claims.
But that’s not all; Team Red has also reduced the price of existing Ryzen 9000X chips. To be exact, the 9600X, 9700X, and 9900X all dropped by $30, whereas the 9950X got slashed by $50. This should put their respective MSRP at $249, $329, $469, and $619. That said, the current retail price for each is already lower, sitting at $249, $326, $429, and $599, respectively.
While we don’t know for sure if AMD will launch all Ryzen 9000X3D CPUs at once, Ryzen 7 9800X3D will be among the first. Hopefully, this time, Zen 5 will have something to offer for gamers who were disappointed by the regular models.
