While all eyes fixate on Team Red’s X3D expansion, AMD Ryzen 9 7900 is still the king of efficiency. There isn’t a single other CPU that offers the same levels of power without guzzling electricity. In fact, it’s the perfect powerhouse for penny-pinchers like me. It doesn’t just save on your energy bill, though, as a new deal puts it at the best price we’ve ever seen.
With 35% off in the UK, Ryzen 9 7900 falls to just £339.98. It’s never been lower. Amazon US shoppers can grab the same chip with a 14% reduction at $368.99. This is also the best deal we’ve spotted except for one day when it fell $2 cheaper. All that says to me is that discounts are fleeting, and you should grab one while you can.
Under the hood, the chip touts a 12-core, 24-thread Zen 4 configuration. The star of the show is the slim 65W TDP that keeps the power draw to a minimum. The 3.7GHz base clock and 5.4GHz boost clocks don’t quite reach the highs of the ‘X’ model, but that’d require 162% more power to pull off a 4% performance jump.
Generally, you’re still looking at 120fps at 1080p in games like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Far Cry 6. Performance even rockets past 240fps in Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker. It’s more of an HD chip than QHD or 4K, but that depends how comfortable you are with different settings.
Bundled in the cost is an AMD Wraith Prism cooler, so you don’t even need to source your own. You can pass those savings onto other upgrades, like an AM5 motherboard if you need one. Nowadays, you can grab a competent B650 for $170 / £170.
Since this deal is on Amazon, you can get yours with next-day delivery using a Prime subscription. If that alone doesn’t tempt you, take a gander at the other membership benefits. I’ve just finished watching Reacher on Prime Video and can wholeheartedly recommend it to action and conspiracy fans.
In the meantime, we’ll keep hunting for deals like we normally do. You can keep up to date by following us on Twitter and Facebook or by subscribing to our free newsletter for more.
