AMD’s most powerful RDNA 4 GPU has emerged

With each passing day, we move closer to a world with RDNA 4 graphics cards. Try as AMD might to keep its plans hidden, there’s only so much the company can do. Now, we have yet another Navi 40 series GPU to add to the pile. This isn’t just any die, though. This chip should be at the heart of Radeon’s next flagship.

Spotted by Olrak29_ on X, this new RDNA 4 GPU, ‘Navi 48 XTX’, appears as part of a shipping manifest. We expect this die to power the best graphics card in the upcoming Radeon RX 8000 series. Don’t mistake its XTX moniker for a Radeon RX 7900 XTX successor, however. Sadly, AMD is playing this generation much safer rather than chasing Nvidia’s tail, if rumours hold true.

The shipping manifest doesn’t contain any details on Navi 48 XTX itself past its name. However, leakers shared alleged Navi 48 and 44 specs earlier this year. This XTX SKU is likely the most powerful GPU SKU, with 64 compute units and a 256-bit memory bus. XTX badging leaves room for a Navi 48 XT, akin to the Navi 31 XT powering Radeon RX 7900 XT. It’s unclear whether AMD will adopt the same approach for other RDNA 4 GPUs, namely Navi 44.

While this appearance is promising, it’s unfortunately no indication that RDNA 4 GPUs are launching soon. After all, we’re still less than two years out from the December 2022 launch of the Radeon RX 7000 series. We don’t expect AMD to fill the gap with a 7X50 refresh, either, so patience is all we have left.

We’ve got more leaks to share if you’re hungry for more. Word on the street is that Radeon RX 8000 series will use GDDR6 VRAM. In terms of performance, RDNA 4 should be much better at ray tracing with higher clock speeds too.
