Anaconda Remake Release Date Revealed In Jack Black & Paul Rudd Announcement Video

The Anaconda remake gets a new update from Paul Rudd and Jack Black, who unite for a video to reveal the film’s release date. Released in 1997, Anaconda follows a National Geographic film crew as they are forced to work with an obsessed hunter to capture the world’s largest snake. A sequel was released in 2004, followed by new installments in 2008 and 2009. After the franchise lay dormant for 15 years, it was confirmed this August that a comedic Anaconda remake is on the way from director Tom Gormican, with Black, Rudd, and Daniela Melchior all set to star.

Sony now shares a new video featuring Rudd and Black on the Anaconda remake’s tropical-looking set, with the pair revealing that the film will hit theaters Christmas 2025. Though there’s some confusion over whether the movie will be called “Anaconda” or “The Anaconda,” Black does promise that “there’s gonna be a big f–king snake.” Check out the announcement video below:

The set featured in the video, which could be a boat or a bar, certainly looks tropical. This would track with the setting of the first movie, which takes place mostly on a boat in the Amazon River. It’s notable, too, that Rudd is wearing scrubs in the video, a possible hint about his character.

Jennifer Lopez, Jon Voight and Ice Cube anchor the original Anaconda as the three leads, and Black, Rudd, and Melchior will be the trio taking center stage in the remake. The two lead characters at the center of the Anaconda remake are a wedding photographer with directorial ambitions and an aspiring actor, though it remains unclear who is playing who. The original Anaconda‘s cast includes Owen Wilson, Jonathan Hyde, and Kari Wuhrer, suggesting that additional casting announcements for the remake could be on the way over the next few months.

Our Take On The Anaconda Remake Video

The New Film Features Some Changes

Though none of the Anaconda movies fared well with critics, the premise of a crew hunting a giant, man-eating snake remains strong. One of the weaker aspects of the original is that, though it made great use of practical effects, the snake looked far less real when it came to VFX. It’s not clear if the remake will be using any practical effects, but modern VFX technology will hopefully mean the snake ends up looking more real when it is digital.

The Anaconda remake is reported to be more of a comedy than the original, and the video with Black and Rudd certainly supports this. Both are talented comedic actors, and they already seem to have strong chemistry, which bodes well for the movie. Many questions remain about the Anaconda remake, but audiences evidently now have a release window to look forward to.
