AOC has announced yet another price-competitive gaming monitor targeting esports players. This new model takes refresh rates to the next level, putting its footing near IPS and OLED playgrounds.
The C27G2Z3/BK is a 27in Full HD (1920×1080) monitor boasting 280Hz refresh rate and 1ms GtG/0.5ms MPRT response times. It features a 1,500R curved Fast VA panel rated for 4000:1 contrast, which is on the high side for this panel type. This means you can enjoy deep blacks all while being able to track fast-moving targets in the dark. In other words, a nice combination for both story-driven and competitive games.
AOC even talks about HDR10 compliance, though as usual, unless the display carries individually lit zones, the HDR representation likely won’t be breathtaking. This is emphasised by the brightness, which AOC says maxes out at 300nits. That said, you get something more valuable for competitive play, as Adaptive Sync eliminates screen tearing by synchronising the monitor’s refresh rate with the GPU.
In the ergonomics department, the C27G2Z3/BK enjoys a wide range of stand adjustments allowing -4°/+21.5° tilt, -30°/+30° swivel, and 130mm height control. Not to forget the handy 100x100mm VESA mount. Behind the stand, you’ll find two HDMI 2.0 plus one DisplayPort 1.4 complementing a nicely priced package.
Interestingly, as far as my quick search goes, AOC seems to be the only brand offering a VA panel at this resolution, boasting a higher refresh rate than 240Hz. The competition seems to go with 1440p resolution on display rocking above 240Hz. Though, as you can guess, that comes at a price.
The C27G2Z3/BK will be available from late June 2024 at £199.99 MSRP, backed by a 3-year warranty. Once more AOC is offering one of the lowest entries to a specific refresh rate, leaving its closest competitor at £248.
