Callum Turner opens up about the current status of Neuromancer‘s development, revealing when Apple TV+’s ambitious adaptation is expected to begin filming. The television series adapts William Gibson’s 1984 sci-fi novel and will tell the tale of a former hacker dragged back into the profession by a mysterious employer seeking out a highly powerful AI entity in a dystopian world. One of the first examples of the Cyberpunk genre, Neuromancer will see Turner play Case, the novel’s lead hacker who returns to his profession after being forced into retirement.
When speaking with Elizabeth Olsen on the cover of Interview Magazine, Turner shined a light on his upcoming projects, including the status of Neuromancer. While Turner was light on details, he revealed that production was set to move filming to Japan. The actor stated that current plans will see him join filming in Japan in December, before moving on to the production of Karim Aïnouz’s Rosebrush Pruning, which is currently filming in Spain.
I’m going to Japan in December for a TV show called Neuromancer and I’m going to do this movie called Rosebush Pruning with a director called Karim Aïnouz who just did Firebrand.
What Turner’s Response Reveals About Neuromancer
The Production Has Been Highly Secretive
While Turner has provided a much-needed update on the state of Neuromancer, the upcoming series is still wrapped in mystery. While the series was confirmed to be greenlit in February for 10 episodes and Briana Middleton joined the production as assassin Molly Millions, no significant update has been given since.

Following the success of Masters of the Air, Callum Turner will star in another highly-anticipated Apple series based on a classic sci-fi novel.
Though Turner’s update could indicate that the production is moving to Japan to capture the Chiba City sequences, filming for other sequences, such as interiors, and cyberspace, could have already been completed. The novel also features several sequences set in Istanbul and Finland. As such, should production set out to do on-location filming in these settings, it may still be some time until filming wraps, especially if December’s shoot is only the start.
Our Thoughts On Turner’s Neuromancer’s Update
The Series Is Highly-Anticipated
While Apple TV+’s adaptation of Foundation has proven that the streamer can bring some of the most influential sci-fi novels to the screen, there is still a lot of pressure about how they should approach Neuromancer. While the cyberpunk genre may be incredibly familiar, the novel is an establishing work that many creatives have struggled to bring to the screen.
