Arsenal fans were brutally fooled by rumours of a West Ham equaliser against Manchester City on the final day of the Premier League season.

The Gunners narrowly missed out on the top-flight title on Sunday in an enthralling race which went all the way to the last round of games.

Arsenal needed to beat Everton, which they did, but required City to drop points against West Ham, only for Pep Guardiola’s side to record a 3-1 victory.

That meant that Arsenal’s hopes of landing their first Premier League trophy in 20 years were ended in heart-breaking fashion.

To rub salt in Arsenal’s wounds, supporters inside the Emirates were tricked into thinking that West Ham had equalised at the Etihad.

City’s two-goal cushion was reduced by Mohammed Kudus but rumours then spread that David Moyes’ side had levelled it up at 2-2.

Massive cheers and celebrations could be heard around the Emirates and one fan, seen on TNT Sports, gestured with their hands that the score was 2-2.

‘There are rumours going around here, as you can tell from the crowd’s reaction, that West Ham have scored again,’ the commentary team on TNT Sports said. ‘I can tell you that isn’t the case.’

‘The rumour of a fake West Ham equaliser against Man City fooled the Emirates,’ @footballontnt posted on X.

Rival supporters have been mocking Arsenal fans over the incident with @lfc6775 posting: ‘Loooool. And to think, the best Arsenal team in 20 years is currently just [seven points] ahead of a Liverpool team in transition. And yet Arsenal fans are saying they’re moving in the right direction.’

‘I wonder if all the fans who started leaving after going 1-0 down have made their way back in,’ @LeeJamescord added.

Chelsea fan @Billychapple said: ‘State of these lot begging [their] London rivals to do a job so they can win the league [because] they weren’t able to do the it themselves.’

Arsenal also missed out on last season’s title in dramatic fashion – topping the table for 248 days – the most for a team who failed to win the title in English top-flight history.
