Fan of Asda’s popular reward scheme? Well, the supermarket is making a significant change to the system.
The chain has confirmed that Blue Light card holders who shop in Asda will now receive less in their rewards cash pot.
The Blue Light Card offers exclusive discounts to thousands of emergency workers in retailers like Asda.
However, as of April 25, Asda has confirmed that Blue Light Card holders will now receive a 5% discount instead of the previous 10% on fresh food items, including meat, fish, fruits, vegetables, fresh fruit juices, smoothies, dairy, and bakery products.
This 5% discount will be reflected in the cardholders’ Asda rewards cash pot as usual.
Since the news broke, shoppers have expressed their frustration on Facebook upon learning about this change.
‘Back to Tesco Clubcard. Absolutely appalling 5%,’ wrote John Rushton-Gundy.
‘This is a real shame,’ added Alexis Drayson.
While Paul Michael said: ‘Time to look at doing all of my shopping in Aldi again.’
In contrast to this reaction, there were also shoppers who argued that they appreciated what the scheme was providing, no matter the size of the discount.
‘We need to remember Asda don’t have to give us anything. I really appreciate that just by scanning my phone each time I go, I get something in return,’ stated Diana Jones.
Asda is the only major supermarket in the UK that currently offers Blue Light Card holders these benefits.
And despite the adjustment in discounts, Blue Light Card holders will still enjoy access to exclusive Asda Rewards offers. These are now beginning with a competition where cardholders have the opportunity to win up to £100 in their Cashpots every day they spend £5 or more until May 27, 2024.
