A 10-month-old baby boy was left with permanent brain damage after he was repeatedly punched in the head by a sickening thug.
Jordan Cattell caused multiple skull fractures and haemorrhaging to the little tot, who survived the ordeal but now requires full-time care for the rest of his life due to his disabilities.
The 25-year-old launched the horrific attack on the baby as he lay in his cot in Walsall, West Midlands, in 2018.
When he was questioned by police, he claimed the baby had fallen over and tried to cover up for his abuse by creating a story.
But Cattell, of Selbourne Road, Handsworth, was found guilty by a jury at an earlier hearing at Wolverhampton Crown Court.
He was sentenced to 14 years in prison last Friday.
Det con Lucy Simpson, of West Midlands Police, said: ‘This was an upsetting case, particularly as it has such a long-lasting effect on the victim, at the time a small, innocent baby.
‘The sustained injuries have impacted the victim’s life, leading to lifelong disabilities.
‘It has taken years of hard work to bring this case to court and I’m glad Cattell has been put behind bars for a significant period of time.’
Last month, a seven-month-old baby girl was tragically mauled to death by the family pet at home.
And in May, a nursery nurse who killed a baby by strapping her to a bean bag was jailed.
