WARNING: SPOILERS ahead for Bad Monkey episode 5.Apple’s new crime comedy series Bad Monkey places Yancy in hot water in episode 5, titled “That Damn Arm Is Back.”. The first two episodes of Bad Monkey showcase the interwoven narratives of several main characters, including Bonnie/Plover, Christopher/Nick, and Neville. Vince Vaughn leads the cast of Bad Monkey as a former Miami detective trying to get his job back after being demoted to a health inspector and finds himself in the middle of a web of deception and murder. Bad Monkey is one of the many shows created by prolific television producer Bill Lawrence, whose other works include Ted Lasso (2020-2023), Shrinking (2023- ), and Scrubs (2001-2010).

Yancy Reveals He’s Alive To Nick & Eve As They Make Their Escape To Andros

Yancy ruins Eve and Nick’s “happily ever after”

After Yancy digs up Nick’s grave and uses his severed arm to unlock his phone in Bad Monkey episode 5, he is able to figure out his next move. He discovers through a text to Nick’s pilot that Nick and Eve are flying out to Andros that day and tries to catch them before they take off. He calls Eve from Nick’s phone, which had been missing since Nick tried to kill Yancy. Nick knows he’s in trouble once he discovers that he lost his phone and that Yancy is still alive but tries to hide the truth from Eve, knowing it would upset her. Eve inevitably finds out that Yancy is still alive and is furious after Yancy calls her from Nick’s phone as their plane takes off to their “happily ever after.”

Yancy is now more determined to bring Nick to justice than ever and is remarkably laid back despite nearly being murdered. While Nick and Yancy still haven’t met face to face, Yancy has more than enough evidence and testimony to bring Nick onto the police’s radar, except there’s one major problem. Yancy is on the run from Detective Mendez, an officer who has a lot of bad blood for Yancy and will likely bend the law to get revenge on him. It is surprising, however, that Yancy hasn’t come clean to his old detective partner Rogelio (John Ortiz), who is also given a nasty ultimatum by Sheriff Sonny Summers to rat Yancy out.

One of the most shocking moments of Bad Monkey episode 5 was the sudden appearance of Cody, the student who Plover had an inappropriate relationship with before fleeing to Florida and changing her name to Bonnie. It’s revealed that Cody has been tracking Plover down and approaches her at the end of episode 5 when she takes refuge at Yancy’s house while he’s away. It’s also revealed that the driver of the black SUV that nearly ran over Yancy in a previous episode was actually Cody, not Egg, which gives a whole new meaning to the black SUV constantly trying to initiate Yancy throughout the series. It’s not clear what Cody wants but it is clear that he’s inserted himself back into Plover’s life.

Why Nick Chooses To Side With Eve Over His Daughter Caitlin

Nick’s obsession with Eve seemingly has no limits

As proven in previous episodes, Nick is so obsessed with Eve that he will do anything for her, even turn his back on his daughter Caitlin after making her believe he died. In a previous episode of Bad Monkey, it looked as though Nick drew the line with Eve when it came to Caitlin, hinting that she could provide the final strand of morality and guilt to Nick’s deeply flawed character. However, it looks like he foolishly destroyed his relationship with his daughter Caitlin in Bad Monkey episode 5, one of the only people who knows he’s alive besides Eve, Yancy, and her boyfriend Simon. Caitlin is still a major loose end in Nick and Eve’s plan who may end up helping Yancy take her father down.

Neville had broken into Nick’s office in a previous episode of Bad Monkey and was able to walk away with a hard drive he discovered in a locked drawer of Nick’s desk. He opens the hard drive and finds evidence of Nick’s offshore accounts, forged deeds, and itemized bribes to local officials. These are dozens of documents that he can now use to take down Nick and prevent them from building their resort on Andros, where Neville lives comfortably. Neville now must find someone who has enough power to take Nick down, which could potentially be Yancy. He reaches out to Tanny instead, who sets him up with Egg instead of her boss as Neville has intended. Neville is able to get away from Egg but loses the valuable hard drive.

Why Rosa Lied To Mendez & Hid Yancy At Her Family’s House

Rosa’s growing feelings for Yancy overpower her moral/civic duty

Rosa makes several professional and legal sacrifices to protect Yancy, which becomes less and less surprising as Bad Monkey goes on. It’s clear that Rosa is developing feelings for Yancy and she knows that he didn’t kill anybody, which is why she’s choosing to support him rather than turn him in to the police. She also dislikes the aggressive and egotistical Mendez, which makes it easy to lie to his face and bring Yancy to her family home knowing that he will be safest there. Even though Yancy is getting Rosa into some pretty hot water after assaulting Mendez in a police station, evading arrest, and getting caught digging up Nick Stripling’s grave, she seems to be sticking around for the long haul.

Will Yancy Turn Himself In Or Keep Going After Nick In Bad Monkey Episode 6?

Yancy will likely see this thing out to the beat of his own drum

Now halfway through season 1, it’s evident that Yancy likes to move at his own pace and get things done independently. Even if he wasn’t being chased by the police, he probably wouldn’t be running off to Sonny or Mendez for help considering his lone-wolf approach. However, it would probably be wise for him to explain his side of the story to law enforcement and get their assistance in taking down Nick. His bad blood with Mendez, who will be unwilling to hear him out, makes things complicated, meaning that Yancy must be more careful than ever in future episodes of Bad Monkey season 1 since he has both sides of the law coming after him.
