A Wells Fargo bank employee was discovered dead at her cubicle when co-workers detected a foul odor – four days after she scanned in.
Denise Prudhomme, 60, was found lifeless inside the financial services company’s corporate office in Tempe, Arizona, on August 20.
Her last scan into the building was on the Friday prior at 7am, and it was her last one.
An on-site security worker reported to police that a bank employee appeared to be dead at the office on the 1100 block of West Washington Street. Prudhomme was pronounced dead at the scene shortly before 5pm.
Several employees smelled a bad odor but thought it was a plumbing problem, a worker told 12News this week.
Prudhomme’s desk was reportedly on the third floor and not off the main aisle of the office space.
Wells Fargo confirmed that Prudhomme sat in a section that less populated.
‘We are deeply saddened by the loss of our colleague, Denise Prudhomme,’ the company told NBC News on Thursday.
‘Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones, and we are in contact to ensure they are well supported during this difficult time.’
Wells Fargo is ‘committed to the safety and wellness of our workforce’ and going over its ‘internal procedures after this event’.
An investigation into the death is underway. Police said there were no clear signs of foul play. Prudhomme’s cause of death will be determined by the Maricopa County Medical Examiner.
A Wells Fargo employee who wished to remain anonymous said that the building has 24-hour security and was upset that Prudhomme was not found sooner.
‘To hear she’s been sitting at the desk like that would make me feel sick. And nobody did anything. That’s how she spent her last moments,’ the employee told 12News.
‘It’s really heartbreaking and I’m thinking, “What if I were just sitting there?” No one would check on me?’
Prudhomme died more than a year-and-a-half after a Beigel’s Bakery worker was found dead inside the establishment’s walk-in freezer in Brooklyn.
