Bar offers ‘free beers for straight men’ during Pride Month

This bat in Idaho has a different take on Pride Months

It is LGBTQ+ Pride Month, so it only makes sense that this bar has decided to celebrate straight men by rolling out free beers for them.

‘What about Straight Pride,’ ‘When is International Men’s Day’ – these are some of the questions that – coincidentally – get popular during June in the Western world.

A bar in the US state of Idaho seems to have taken these concerns to heart and is now offering free pints to straight men throughout its inaugural Heterosexual Awesomeness Month.

There is a catch though – it is not enough to actually be a heterosexual, you have to look the part too.

And if you are a woman, you do not get a free drink – but you do get a ‘happy hour’ discount. Hello equality.

In a Facebook post, the Old State Saloon in Eagle said: ‘Come join us all month to celebrate heterosexuals, for without them, none of us would be here!

‘Each Monday will be Hetero Male Monday and any heterosexual male dressed like a heterosexual male will receive a free draft beer.

‘Each Wednesday is Heterosexual couples day and each heterosexual couple will receive 15% off their bill.’

That did not go down well with people for whom these straight men are just a little too sensitive.

‘Imagine being this insecure’, Joshua Rex wrote.

Juno Blanco said: ‘I support heterosexual people but idk why they have to shove it on our faces. Do that in the privacy of your own home.’

At least one person’s interest was piqued though.

Taylor Keith said: ‘It’s a free country. But tell us more about all those men on Mondays. Getting drunk…maybe a little curious…maybe a little experimental…’

Oh well, it is not like Old State Saloon has forgotten about LGBTQ+ people celebrating their community and victories this month.

In another post, the bar said: ‘I love all types of people, including the LGBTQ+ crowd.’

Although, the suggestion they may need ‘Jesus as their saviour’ makes that claim sound dubious.

Commenting on Facebook, Jenna Nash said: ‘Every day is hetero day. They’re not a marginalized group, they’re the norm.’

Jen Potcher said: ‘This is horridly disappointing. I can handle differing political views. I CANNOT handle bigotry and hate towards marginalized communities.

‘Many of the people in my karaoke group are LGBTQ+. They now do not feel safe among your staff or patrons.

‘Spin it however you think you can, but this is a blatant attack against the queer community.’

Thailand is set the become just the 38th country to legalise same-sex marriage this year.

Same-sex activity is illegal in 65 countries, with it punishable by death in 12 of those. Straight marriage and sexual activity is not illegal anywhere.
