An eight-year-old boy has died after he was shot in the head and face at a Cumbria farm.

The tragic incident happened at a farm in the Warcop area in Cumbria yesterday.

The emergency services rushed to the farm at about 2.50pm after reports that a child had been seriously injured by a firearm at the property.

They discovered the boy had been horrifically injured along with a firearm which the Cumbria police secured.

The eight-year-old was rushed to the hospital by air ambulance with serious and life-threatening injuries to his head and face.

Sadly, he died overnight, the force confirmed.

Now a man in his 60s has been arrested following the death.

The force said: ‘Officers arrested a man in his 60s at the scene on suspicion of assault GBH.

‘He remains in police custody but is now under arrest on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter.’
