Bridgerton stars Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton have revealed how steamy filming their sex scenes really became, and even led to broken furniture.
Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton are finally having their love story play out on screen, as Netflix releases the second part of the third season tomorrow.
So far, viewers have been treated to a particularly raunchy carriage scene, but things are set to turn up a notch, with the pair recalling off-camera moments that were just as sexy.
In an interview on Wednesday’s This Morning, they teased a behind-the-scenes secret ahead of an upcoming episode, vowing the next part is even ‘steamier’.
Derry Girls actress Nicola, 37, said: ‘We did stop because we broke the furniture when we were doing it.’
‘We were really going for it,’ she laughed.
‘We’ve worked together for so long that we can communicate without having to say much, and I knew that we were both thinking “We’re killing this”.’
‘And we’re killing the furniture!’ Cat quipped, as Luke, 31, recalled the furniture ‘collapsing’ under them.
The pair elsewhere spoke about the famous carriage scene, admitting they didn’t even stop when asked to.
‘It was filmed in a sound stage in an enclosed carriage,’ Nicola explained, saying: ‘We had the script and knew the sexy bits, what points we needed to it, but we were waiting for the director to call cut when we get to Bridgerton house, or say stop when we get to Bridgerton house.
‘And we just weren’t hearing it.’
Insisting they weren’t just ‘lost in the moment’, the pair admitted they ‘kept going’ simply because they hadn’t heard.
‘We just went for it,’ Luke added.
Nicola continued: ‘It got to a point where we’d just been kissing for ages, so I just went, “Oh we’re at Bridgerton house,” and then there was just silence.
‘And the director came to the window and went, “What were you doing?” and we went, “What?” and he was like, “I was shouting out to stop!”‘
‘We hand to god did not hear it,’ she insisted.
Metro.co.uk recently had the chance to speak to Bridgerton stars Nicola and Luke, with the pair opening up about their intimate moments in season three and what fans can expect when part two drops tomorrow.
Nicola explained how ‘empowered’ she felt filming her sex scenes with Luke, 31, and how instrumental it was for them to work with their ‘amazing’ intimacy coordinator Lizzy Talbot.
‘People go well, is it like a stunt or is it like a dance? It’s not really like that. It’s more like giving you a framework to do it the way you want to do it. And we had a lot of say in how we wanted things to go,’ she explained.
‘It’s not like, you kiss for three seconds and then you move your hand. We knew we had to hit certain points, but we were able to flow with it and make it seem natural and organic. It’s amazing having that control. It makes you feel very empowered.’
Teasing what’s to come when the following four episodes drop, Nicola shared cryptically: ‘There’s more famous scenes from the books in there as well. But… you’re in for a treat. Sorry for the wait, but it’ll be worth it.’
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1.
Bridgerton season 3 part 2 will be available to watch on Netflix from tomorrow at 8am.
