Burn Gorman’s Beetlejuice 2 Character Name Is Hilarious When Remembering This 48-Year-Old Horror Classic

Burn Gorman plays one of the new characters in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, and his role in the story and name are hilarious when remembering a 48-year-old horror classic. Over three decades after Beetlejuice’s (Michael Keaton) chaos in Winter River triggered by the Maitlands, the bio-exorcist and the Deetzes return in a sequel simply titled Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. This new story takes the audience back to Winter River as Delia (Catherine O’Hara), Lydia (Winona Ryder), and her daughter Astrid (Jenna Ortega) return after Charles’ unexpected death.

Once in Winter River, Astrid is tricked by a new friend into going to the Neitherworld, leaving Lydia no choice but to summon Beetlejuice for help. Beetlejuice agrees in exchange for marrying Lydia so he can be free, but also because he’s being hunted down in the afterlife by his ex-wife, Delores (Monica Bellucci). Beetlejuice and the Deetzes are joined by new characters who add to the fun and chaos, among them Burn Gorman’s priest, whose role and character’s name are funnier thanks to a horror classic.

Burn Gorman’s Priest Character In Beetlejuice 2 Shares A Name With The Omen’s Antichrist

A Lot Of Irony In The Name Of The Priest In Beetlejuice 2

Burn Gorman appears in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice when the Deetzes return to Winter River for Charles’ funeral. Gorman plays Father Damien, a reverend in Winter River who conducts Charles’ funeral. Father Damien doesn’t appear much in Beetlejuice, but he’s also the priest at Lydia and Rory’s (Justin Theroux) wedding, which turns into Beetlejuice’s second attempt to marry Lydia. Father Damien adds to the comedy of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, but his presence is even better because he shares a name with the Antichrist from The Omen.

Directed by Richard Donner, the 1976 horror classic The Omen tells the story of American diplomat Robert Thorn (Gregory Peck) and his wife Katherine (Lee Remick), who welcome their first baby. However, Katherine gives birth to a boy who dies immediately, so Robert agrees to secretly adopt another baby who was born at the same time, but his mother died and he had no family left. They name their son Damien, and on his fifth birthday, disturbing things begin to happen around him.

Where To Watch All 5 The Omen Movies

The Omen is a celebrated horror franchise with 5 films that spans 3 decades. Here’s where to watch the complete Omen collection on streaming.

With the help of photographer Keith Jennings (David Warner), Robert learns that Damien is the Antichrist, and his and Katherine’s baby boy didn’t die but was murdered by the nuns at the hospital as they needed the Thorns to raise Damien. Surely, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’s Father Damien didn’t unleash terror on Winter River nor did he take the lives of those around him, but it’s a fun connection between his character and The Omen’s Antichrist, and it’s most likely another way of Tim Burton to pay homage to some of his favorite horror stories.

Charles Deetz's funeral in Beetlejuice 2

There are some great new additions to the world of Beetlejuice in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, and Gorman’s Father Damien is one of them. Father Damien isn’t the typical small-town priest and is quite the oddball – he’s even driving around town on Halloween night while drinking (a friendly reminder to never drink and drive).

As mentioned above, Father Damien doesn’t appear much in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, but his brief interactions with Delia and Rory are pretty funny, as well as his role in the chaotic attempt at a wedding between Beetlejuice and Lydia. Father Damien survived the almost-wedding and the possible deaths of Rory and Delores, so if there’s a third Beetlejuice movie in the future, he could return.
