Activision has published Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 system requirements for PC, indicating its performance demands are similar to 2023’s Modern Warfare 3. However, developer Treyarch has managed to significantly curb the amount of storage you’ll need to install the game.
Pre-load for Black Ops 6 begins October 21 at 9AM PDT across all platforms. However, launch timings depend on your choice of platform. Battle.net and Steam users will be able to play from October 24, at 9PM PDT. Meanwhile, Xbox, PlayStation, and Microsoft Store/Game Pass copies will become playable across 4AM-11PT depending on your region.
For those seeking the best Black Ops 6 experience, you’ll want to pay heed to the game’s ‘Competitive/4K Ultra’ specs list. Activision describes this as the tier to aim for if you’re after frame rates above 60fps or plan to play with a 4K resolution.
To hit this desirable spec, you’ll need a GeForce RTX 4070, GeForce RTX 3080, or Radeon RX 6800 XT. Of course, a powerful processor is a must for high frame rate gaming, but a Ryzen 7 2700X or Core i7-8700K should suffice according to Activision.
For those familiar with Modern Warfare 3’s system requirements, you’ll note that they are identical across the two games. This is understandable considering Black Ops 6 uses the same engine, IW Engine 9.0. However, this is the first entry in the Black Ops series to move away from the aged, albeit heavily modified, IW 3.0, which featured in the original Black Ops right up to Black Ops: Cold War.
Thankfully, Black Ops 6 won’t eat up as much storage as prior entries in the series. Activision says you’ll need 102GB of space freed up on your SSD, down from the 149GB of Modern Warfare 3. Of course, this encompasses its campaign, multiplayer, and Warzone.
Black Ops 6 will also feature AMD FSR 3.1, including the latest versions of FidelityFX Super Resolution and Frame Generation. These technologies are brand-agnostic, meaning they’ll work on supported Arc, GeForce and Radeon graphics cards. There’s no word yet on whether the game will feature Nvidia DLSS or Intel XeSS, but it seems likely.
AMD has already published drivers for Black Ops 6, namely version 24.8.1. For owners of Nvidia and Intel graphics cards, Activision specifically recommends versions 560.70 and 32.0.101.5972. However, I’d expect to see bespoke revisions arrive closer to launch. In the meantime, though, make sure you have the relevant driver installed for the best performance.
