Coronation Street star Alison King has confirmed a brand new role away from the cobbles.
The actress, who is better known as Weatherfield’s Carla Connor, is set to appear on the big screen in new film Dirty Truckers.
Writer Ian Hodges announced news of the film in a post on LinkedIn.
Alison then commented: ‘Can’t wait to get this off the ground Ian.’
According to the film’s IMDB page, Alison will play a character called Ella and will share the screen with Royle Family legend Ricky Tomlinson and retired professional boxer Joe Egan.
A synopsis for the film reads: ‘Unemployed British truck drivers in the 1980s resort to illegal activities involving the quarry, mafia, and police to make money quickly, putting their livelihoods and freedom at risk as they navigate a web of corruption.’
It is currently unclear how Alison’s new role will affect her filming with Coronation Street.
Metro has contacted a spokesperson for the ITV soap for comment.
Alison joined Coronation Street as factory boss Carla in 2006, before taking a four-month break from the role in 2012.
She quit the cobbles after a decade in 2016, but made a triumphant return a year later.
Alison is currently central to one of Corrie’s big storylines, as Carla wrestles with her growing feelings for DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers).
The pair have grown to become close friends since Swain’s arrival in Weatherfield earlier this year.
Recently, however, it has been hinted that their relationship could turn more romantic.
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and from 7am on ITVX.
