Amid reports he will leave Manchester United this summer, Casemiro has announced he has ‘joined’ Spanish club Marbella.
He has however not signed as a player, but rather has become a shareholder and director of the side that was promoted to Spain’s third-tier at the end of the 2023/24 season.
‘Marbella Football Club is pleased to announce that Carlos Henrique Casemiro, star of Manchester United, from the Brazilian national team and five-time Champions League winner, becomes a new shareholder of our organisation from today,’ a statement on Tuesday read.
‘The confirmation of Casemiro as a new member of the board of directors is a historic opportunity for the club to continue projecting its institutional and sporting strategy in elite football.
‘Not only Marbella, but also the whole city, are proud that an athlete of his world dimension wants to belong to our family.’
The 32-year-old himself added: ‘It is an honour for me to join Marbella Football Club because my biggest motivation is the spectacular possibilities for growth of the club.
‘I have been to Marbella with my family on several occasions and both my children, my wife and I are in love with this city, with which we want to be connected for life.
‘No doubt, together we will dream big to take Marbella to the highest, but now we have to enjoy our wonderful ascent to Primera.’
This news comes amid speculation that Casemiro’s days at Old Trafford are numbered after a difficult campaign where United suffered their worst Premier League finish of all-time, though they did win the FA Cup.
The defensive midfielder made a great impact in his debut campaign after signing from Real Madrid in 2022 for upwards of £60million, but looked completely out of sorts and unable to deal with the physicality of English football in his sophomore season.
New Red Devils co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has reportedly referred to Casemiro, who still has two years left on a £350,000-a-week contract, as an example of United’s poor transfer policy.
The club plan to offload much of the squad this summer, with the Brazil captain of interest to three Saudi Pro League sides, with Cristiano Ronaldo personally calling his former teammate in a bid to get him to sign for Al-Nassr.
But this new venture with Marbella perhaps suggests that the player sees his future in Spain, having enjoyed nearly a decade of success there with Real Madrid.
