Even the most seasoned performers can mess up sometimes, however, Chris Martin’s surprise stage mishap came as quite a shock.

Coldplay was performing at the sold-out Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia when the frontman, 47, had an unfortunate tumble through a gap in the floor.

The Yellow hitmaker was speaking to the crowd, walking backwards along the stage when he fell, resulting in screams from watching fans.

Chris appeared to hit his back on the other side of the open stage exit, catching himself on the edges to ease the fall.

Uninjured, he climbed back out and thanked production hands for ‘catching’ him, adding: ‘That’s not planned.’

Despite the dramatic backwards slip, he managed to continue with the final Music of the Spheres show at the stadium.

This comes just days after his Coldplay bandmate Guy Berryman was struck down with illness on the first Melbourne show on Wednesday evening.

Chris told the crowd their bassist was ‘vomiting’ and had no chance of performing as co-producer and engineer, Bill Rahko, stepped in.

The Fix You hitmaker shared: ‘I have to say, thank you so much for coming to our show today. It’s a shame but we waited for the last minute to tell you that our beautiful bass player Guy is very, very sick.

‘And will not be (playing) for the first time. I’m sorry for you guys down here who are waiting to see Guy. He’s not going to be able to play today.

‘We’ll have a slightly different show and we’ll do our best to make it amazing, and I know that it will be amazing because we’re in Melbourne with all of you beautiful people.’

He added: ‘We have a strange, alien, weird friend character playing bass, or looking like he’s playing bass. So you’ll hear Guy, but you just won’t see him. Because he’s vomiting.’

Coldplay have a handful of shows left in Sydney and Auckland before the end of the year, with the tour continuing in Abu Dhabi in January.

After a trip around Asia and the US, the Viva La Vida icons will return to the UK for several sold-out shows at London’s Wembley Stadium.

Chris isn’t the only superstar to have stacked it on stage recently as Olivia Rodrigo was left ‘shaken’ after a similar incident.

Again in Melbourne, while on her Guts World Tour, the Brutla hitmaker also managed to step into an unexpected gap on the stage.

‘That was fun! I’m okay!’ she said to the concerned crowd as she climbed out but did end up seeking medical attention after the show.
