Coronation Street has confirmed passion for Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) and Nick Tilsley (Ben Price), which will inevitably devastate Leanne (Jane Danson).
The storyline, which fans predicted a number of weeks ago, kicked off in Monday’s (June 10) edition of the ITV soap after Toyah found herself in Nick’s arms, with the two sharing a passionate kiss.
Nick, as viewers know, is the fiancé and longtime love of Toyah’s sister Leanne, who is currently being manipulated and gaslit by cult leader Rowan (Emrhys Cooper), who has played a pivotal role in driving Nick and Toyah together.
Leanne refused to keep Rowan and his organisation The Institute at arms length, storming out of the flat after Nick issued her with an ultimatum.
Toyah was on hand on to offer comfort to upset Nick in the wake of her sister’s departure, with one thing leading to another!
But will the pair come to regret their actions? Or is a passionate and scandalous affair on the horizon? This is the cobbles we’re talking about, so the latter option is very likely!
‘It’s really confusing for Toyah,’ admitted actress Georgia Taylor. ‘Nick is to all intents and purposes her brother-in-law and they haven’t always got on, so it’s not like she’s been harbouring some secret attraction.
‘So this has hit her out of the blue. They’ve both been there for each other these last few weeks when life has been really tough and those feelings are starting to get a little bit blurred.’
‘Toyah loves her sister but every time she feels guilty for leaning on Nick, Leanne does something to push her away again. It’s difficult when you’re angry at someone, but you also feel guilty for something you’ve done to them.
‘It’s very conflicting for Toyah.’
Fans will just have to keep watching in order to see how far things with Toyah and Nick will go, but Toyah will soon find herself distracted when, later this week, she gets a phone call notifying her that Leanne has been in a serious accident.
The phone call comes at the exact time that she’s due to appear in court and, putting her sister first, Toyah races to the hospital. But will this endanger her freedom?
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
