Former Coronation Street star James Craven has landed a role on an upcoming Paramount plus TV show.

The star was at the centre of one of the year’s biggest storylines, which saw him rape a drunk Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney).

The topical consent story has sparked discussion and been praised by viewers and critics alike for shining a light on the prevalent crime.

James filmed his final scenes in Weatherfield last June, and is now part of an exciting new British thriller called Curfew.

He will be starring alongside former X Factor winner Alexandra Burke, Doctor Who star Mandip Gill and Cutting It actress Sarah Parish.

The series will be set in a world where men are given a curfew under the fictional ‘Women’s Safety Act’ which requires them to stay home between the hours of 7pm and 7am.

Previously, James opened up about the difficulties in filming the hard hitting Corrie storyline telling Metro.co.uk: ‘I think that’s what I struggled with in the beginning, because it was always clear to me that what he’s done is wrong.

‘But I had to try and think about everything from [Aaron’s] point of view, and he just doesn’t think he’s done anything wrong.

‘The reason that he reacts and defends himself in the way that he does is because he truly believes he’s innocent.

‘It’s quite a difficult thing when he’s outwardly defending himself and you know that he shouldn’t be defending himself.

‘As an actor, you have to try and find a way to rationalise why he does what he does because he’s not an evil character.’

However, he was pleased by the reaction from viewers, with many reaching out to him and the show to share appreciation for Corrie covering the issue.

‘Not only is it opening up conversations about consent, about what is right and wrong, but it is also important to reassure people if they have been through something like this that they shouldn’t be made to feel like it’s okay,’ he added.

‘It’s important to let them know that there is stuff that they can do about it, and it’s never acceptable for something like this to happen.’
