Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) returned to Coronation Street recently with her new boyfriend Felix (Robin Morrissey) in tow and since then, things have been a little bit awkward.
Summer met Felix while getting settled into Boston university in America.
During his first chat with Summer’s adoptive parents Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank), Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) and Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce), he boasted about all-things fitness and relished in the fact Paul’s MND was one he’d studied while at university.
In Tuesday’s (June 18) episode of the ITV soap, Billy and Todd were in the flat enjoying breakfast, while Paul was using his Eyegaze machine to say something.
As it played, Billy and Todd discovered that Paul really doesn’t like Felix and thinks he’s a snob. The message played over and over again which was terrible timing, as Felix and Summer walked in and heard it!
Thankfully, Billy was able to pause the machine but it was too late, as Felix left the flat feeling totally humiliated.
Woops.
Later, when Summer arrived to speak with Paul, she wanted to know why he doesn’t like Felix. Paul then broke down in tears which shocked her.
As she left, Billy returned from the bedroom to console his husband. As Paul cried, he then revealed the real reason he hasn’t warmed to Felix.
Paul told Billy that Summer’s new relationship made him think about her future and how he won’t be around when she gets married or has children. Desperate to protect her from getting hurt, Paul felt devastated he eventually won’t be there to look out for and love Summer.
That evening, the family had dinner in the Bistro.
As they left, Summer and Paul stayed behind for a little chat.

Paul apologised for upsetting her and said he looked at Felix and convinced himself he wasn’t ‘husband material’. Summer smiled and reminded Paul that she’s 19 years old – she’s not going to get married yet!
Back on the same page the two characters hugged and went on their way. Paul might not be around to care for Summer when she faces huge milestones like getting married or having her first child but he’s here now.
And that has to be enough.
