Curfew In Borno Community Over Death Of DPO By ISWAP

There is an ongoing curfew in the Marte Local Government Area (LGA) of Borno State after a Divisional Police Office was killed by suspected members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP).

The DPO, Sunday Pius, attached to the LGA was killed on Monday night, and two policemen were injured following an ambush by the terrorists who had attempted to attack a health worker in the area.

The health worker upon the suspicious movement of the assailants at his residence escaped and ran into the police station for refuge.

The police had mobilised to counter the threat but were waylaid by the ISWAP fighters who shot the DPO and injured others around him.

Following the DPO’s death, troops of the Nigerian Army had ordered the residents of the area to remain indoors with an alleged threat to kill anyone found outside.

The troops had allegedly accused the residents of conniving with the ISWAP terrorists while launching a house-to-house search during the curfew.

A few days ago, terrorists attacked the local government area and killed the head of the Civilian Joint Task Force.

THE WHISTLER contacted the State’s Police Spokesperson, ASP Nahum Daso who has yet to respond as of press time.

Marte is a border town with the Western Coast of Chad and the Cameroun Republic. It is about 120km drive from Maiduguri and has recorded series of attacks by terrorists.
