Warning: Contains spoilers for Dragon Ball Daima episode #1.Most stories in Dragon Ball tend to revolve around the titular Dragon Balls, and Dragon Ball Daima is no different. The story is kicked off by Gomah, the new king of the Demon Realm, using the Dragon Balls to turn Goku and his friends into children, forcing Goku and Shin to travel through the Demon Realm to find a way to get everyone back to normal.
Dragon Ball Daima is another Dragon Ball story that involves the Dragon Balls, but it doesn’t stop at just using the regular Dragon Balls from Earth. Dragon Ball Daima episode #1 revealed that the Demon Realm has its own set of Dragon Balls, and just from a single episode, the Dragon Balls of the Demon Realm are set up to be some of the strongest Dragon Balls in the entire series. Those Dragon Balls are certain to be the focal point of Dragon Ball Daima, and it will be great to see what their full power can accomplish.
Why The Dragon Balls Of The Demon Realm Are Such A Big Deal
The Dragon Balls Of The Demon Realm Explained
Not only are the Dragon Balls of the Demon Realm bigger than Earth’s Dragon Balls like the Namekian and Super Dragon Balls, but there are only three of them instead of seven, not unlike the Cerealian Dragon Balls, which could be used without having to wait and could grant esoteric wishes like making someone the strongest person in the universe. As such, the Dragon Balls of the Demon Realm are implied to be incredibly powerful due to their size and small quantity, and they could easily be some of the strongest ones to date.
The Dragon Balls of the Demon Realm being incredibly powerful is also supported by the strength of their creator, Neva. Not only did Neva make the Tamagami so strong that no one’s used his Dragon Balls in 1000 years, but Neva, himself, is so powerful that he can force Earth’s Dragon Balls to prematurely end their hibernation cycle, something never once hinted at being possible before now. Neva being far stronger than the creators of other Dragon Balls implies his Dragon Balls will also be much stronger, and learning to what extent will be great to see.
Daima’s New Dragon Balls Are The Perfect Evolution Of The Franchise’s Original Concept
The Dragon Balls of the Demon Realm being the focus of Dragon Ball Daima is another take on the most classic formula for a Dragon Ball story, and with how powerful they’re implied to be compared to Earth’s Dragon Balls to the point of having guardians Goku will inevitably fight, Dragon Ball Daima can be seen as evolving the original concept of Dragon Ball with the Dragon Balls of the Demon Realm. One of Daima’s biggest selling points was a partial return to Dragon Ball’s writing style, and its handling of the Dragon Balls perfectly plays into that.
All of that plays into the earliest way Dragon Ball’s Akira Toriyama tried to make Dragon Ball work. The original manga took a dip in popularity after seemingly peaking with the first quest for the Dragon Balls, which is why every subsequent story does something new, so Dragon Ball Daima upping the scale of a quest for the Dragon Balls is a perfect extension of what made Dragon Ball such a success. There was plenty of reason to be excited about Dragon Ball Daima from day one, and its new Dragon Balls only serve to add to that.
Dragon Ball Daima releases new episodes Fridays on Crunchyroll.
