Deal of the day: save 20% on this jaw-dropping 49in OLED monitor

There’s always another major shopping event right around the corner. Right now, it’s back-to-school sales, and if you’re feeling the gloom of darker evenings and cooler temperatures, a little retail therapy may lighten the mood.

Always on the hunt for genuine bargains, we’ve identified a stellar deal on Philips’ new Evnia 49M2C8900L OLED monitor. Available from Amazon UK, this stunning screen has dropped from £869.99 to just £699.97. That’s a whopping 20% saving.

Of course, £699 is still a significant chunk of change, but then, this is a significant chunk of monitor, too. Introduced just a few months ago, the Evnia 49M2C8900L is a vast 48.9in ultrawide QD-OLED canvas with 5120×1440 resolution.

The expansive 32:9 aspect ratio and gentle 1800R curve create an incredible sense of immersion, and as a user of a superwide Philips display, I can attest to the form factor’s productivity chops. You’ll look at spreadsheets in an entirely new light; or at least, that’s what you’ll say to convince the boss to let you buy one.

10-bit colour depth, supreme out-the-box colour accuracy, and 99% DCI-P3 coverage bode well for creators, and if you work by day and play by night, there’s a 144Hz refresh rate and 0.03ms GtG response time to look forward to. Heck, there’s even a KVM switch, four-port USB hub, USB-C with 90W power delivery, DTS sound system, and rather lovely Ambilight lighting.

It’s worth noting that the 49M2C8900L is a pared-back variant of Philips Evnia’s slightly older 49M2C8900. You get HDMI 2.0 instead of 2.1, and max refresh rate drops from 240Hz to 144Hz, yet given the £200 saving, there’s good reason to lean toward the more affordable option.

A sure-fire sign of a maturing OLED monitor marketplace. To put the deal into perspective, the same panel is retailing for a thousand Euros on the continent. Yeah, we residents of rip-off Britain are going to enjoy this bargain while we can.
