December 2024 monthly horoscope: Your star sign’s tarot forecast

Get ready for a new month (Picture: Getty/Metro.co.uk)

December is the month of togetherness, parties, and Christmas magic, but we also start this one off in the midst of a communication-hampering Mercury Retrograde.

Mars also goes into retrograde on December 6, which could leave you feeling a little grumpy and frustrated. Thankfully, Neptune turns direct the following day and lifts (some of) the mental fog you may have experienced recently.

There’s lots to look forward to anyway, as on December 15, Mercury’s chaos ends and a Gemini Full Moon adds a witty, social butterfly element to your interactions.

Then, Capricorn season begins on December 21, with the sign’s ambitious energy making for the perfect moment to get your last-minute Christmas shopping done and dusted.

It all culminates in a New Moon in Capricorn on December 30 — you’ll be more motivated than ever to boss those New Year’s resolutions.

Ahead, you’ll find your star sign’s tarot horoscope for the month of December 2024, with three tarot cards drawn for each sign and their meaning for you explained.

Aries

March 21 to April 20

Tarot cards for Aries for December: The Hanged Man, Three of Wands, Queen of Coins

Meaning: Surrender to it and then do it differently

Something has been thwarting or blocking you in your progress and ambitions at work or in your own health and wellbeing. Maybe both, they’re often intertwined, right? The Hanged Man shows that you’ve been stalled by unseen forces, tried all your usual tricks, but nothing has worked.

So, surrender. Let it go. Let it be. Accept the delay ad go do something else. The Three of Wands will emerge, bringing a most surprising, unexpected and weird idea to the equation, something you’d never have come up with by yourself. When this suggestion or offer is made, accept it and use it!

This is the key to the door and the Queen of Coins shows you will flourish, thrive and progress at lightning speed thereafter, making up for lost time. Whatever it is that you’re trying to do, you will do it this month. Success.

Taurus

April 21 to May 21

Tarot cards for Taurus for December: Three of Swords, Ten of Coins, Page of Wands

Meaning: Deal with it head on

Your long-term commitment to building, nurturing and protecting a happy family image and vision could actually end up hurting you, so be careful about brushing things aside for the sake of a (false) sense of togetherness or success.

The Ten of Coins sees you building, doing the right thing, wanting your realm to feel secure and under your control. The Page of Wands shows someone younger, junior, or more chaotic and unpredictable doing something to upset your careful balancing act. Taurus, deal with it honestly, openly, and head on.

The Three of Swords shows that this needs nipping in the bud, calling out, clarifying, discussing, and addressing. Punishment, withdrawal, retreat, atonement… whatever answer is necessary, do it. Don’t be tempted to sweep it under a rug or let them off. Set the right tone. Set the standard where you need it to be.

Gemini

May 22 to June 21

Tarot cards for Gemini for December: Page of Swords, The Hermit, Nine of Cups

Meaning: Sacrifice yields results

Such a busy month ahead, but you’ve also got solo, private, personal goals in mind and they perhaps don’t align with the over-indulgence of the festive season. Gemini, make some tough choices. Prioritise and make sacrifices to protect and focus on what you feel is most important.

The Page of Swords sees you feeling torn and conflicted. Temptation is all around you, but you really want to stick to your path because the goal is so desirable and the results are starting to flow.

The Hermit and Nine of Cups join forces to give you the willpower and focus to stay on track, block out the noise and bustle, and carry on doing what you know is right for you right now. Working hard, researching, learning, practicing, doing the right thing, being absorbed in a solo goal. The dream is going to come true, just stay on course.

Cancer

June 22 to July 23

Tarot cards for Cancer for December: Five of Cups, Knight of Coins, Death

Meaning: Repair and restoration

Something that has been broken, faded or lost can be repaired and restored this December, maybe the magic of Christmas lending a hand, and you will be glad of the effort put in here because, once mended, this will be better than it was before.

The Five of Cups sees you missing someone or something. Death reveals you’re ready to make whatever changes are needed to reinstate this relationship, activity, tradition, visit, role, or commitment in your life, and this time it’s all going to work out beautifully. One change begets another and a whole chain reaction unfolds from just one shift, so go ahead and start that process.

The Knight of Coins brings a male energy in – someone of a similar age, an Earth sign, a hardworking and serious character. Perhaps this is the person you reunite with, perhaps it’s their influence or absence that makes you reinstate something else to replace them!

Leo

July 24 to August 23

leo star sign
Travel is on the cards for you, Leo (Picture: Getty/Metro.co.uk)

Tarot cards for Leo for December: Six of Cups, The Chariot, Nine of Coins

Meaning: Worthwhile journeys

You will make an important trip, journey, outing or holiday this month and it will have a lasting positive impact on your life, something will rekindle there and it will stick around for good this time!

The Chariot is the card of movement, journeys, travel. In December, we often get to move around and go home, go away, have a jaunt someplace. So go where the fancy takes you, Leo! The Six of Cups shows that a nostalgic and affectionate reunion of some sort will ensue, maybe even a romantic one, and you will be pleased you made the trip and the effort.

And, interestingly, this isn’t a one-flash wonder because the Nine of Coins sees that whatever is restored will stick around and grow back into your life in deeper ways going forward. So, go to places you think you might reconnect with your past, especially parts of it that you yearn to relive.

Virgo

August 24 to September 23

virgo star sign
Let them make their own mistakes (Picture: Getty/Metro.co.uk)

Tarot cards for Virgo for December: King of Wands, King of Cups, The Tower

Meaning: Let a row happen

Masculine energies in your realm might be tricky this month ahead, perhaps family members, partners, colleagues or neighbours, even pesky pets!

If this King of Cups and King of Wands are literal people then they are older, and should probably know better! You will, as you often do, find yourself in the middle of them trying to negotiate peace and progress, a way forwards, a resolution that keeps everything intact. Virgo, here’s a tip: don’t bother.

The Tower enters the stage to suggest you should let them wreak their havoc, do what they want, and face the consequences of that. This is the only way for them to truly come to their senses and understand the impact they have, the control they need to adopt, and the lesson they must learn. It’s not in your sphere of influence to make them behave. This is on them. Let them do whatever.

Meaning:  Design your festive season your way

You do what suits you this festive season, Libra, and take some time right now to clarify exactly what that is, so that you can implement it and protect it. The Eight of Swords is a warning not to play it too easygoing or you’ll end up a supporting actor in other people’s dramas and life stories. You are the main character, my friend!

The High Priestess asks you to slow down, pause, and spend a bit of time reflecting what Christmas and New Year should look like for you. What’s a must do? What would be nice to do differently or try fresh? What do you really dislike doing and want to drop from the itinerary? Take the lead, take control, take the initiative and make your vision a reality.

The Page of Wands also wants you to leave plenty of ‘wriggle room’ as you’ll be invited to (and spot for yourself) lots of events and parties and gatherings. You love being social, there’s so much going on, give yourself a loose calendar so you can jump on the new news!

Meaning: Open up to the world

All of a sudden you feel urgency and pressure to do more, live larger, experience a broader array of what life has to offer… and this is an empowering, liberating, and galvanising feeling, so go with it!

The Five of Cups reveals a regret or grief emerges early in the month, a memory that makes you think about how fragile and precious life really is, and that you’ve got to get busy living, make your life a rich tapestry of memories you too can look back on and savour.

The Seven and Two of Coins hold hands to give you the practical ideas and energy to make some changes. You are ready to ditch old routines and habits that exist in your realm for the sake of it, because they aways have. And you are readier than ever to embrace a whole new, weird and wonderful slew of energy, opportunity, people, opinions, ideas, and possibilities. sagittarius star sign
There’s no use running from your problems (Picture: Getty/Metro.co.uk)

Tarot cards for Sagittarius for December: Nine of Swords, The Magician, The High Priestess

Meaning: Don’t hide from your worries

The Nine of Swords is always a call to action to share your darkest thoughts, fears, and dread. Get it all out. Don’t suffer in silence, feel bottled up, or let this worry take a toll on you. Express yourself and say things out loud (they won’t seem as bad).

The High Priestess shows that this surge of worry or fear actually serves a purpose, your instincts and intuition are at work and trying to signal something, trying to get your attention… and worry/fear is the most potent signal they can send. So, push past the feeling and get to the message!

The Magician is the silver lining here. Something inspiring, creative, and uniquely ‘you’ is emerging from this- maybe a new role, project, idea or invention. Your fears will take on a new guise in the light and perhaps become positive allies which lead you to a new landscape and territory. Get them out and let them evolve. Something new is coming.

The Two of Swords is the decision you are going to make, it has hung around for a while and been something you hoped would sort itself out. But that isn’t the case. You need to take a step, make a choice, act with purpose. Do it. And do it from the heart.

The Wheel of Fortune shows this choice will lead to a domino effect of further changes and impacts, all of which revitalise and revamp your realm, shaping it to fit your authentic needs and desires. Don’t sweat any small issues that emerge, they’re just teething problems so manage them swiftly. A lot of positive change lies in store.

Meaning: Reviewing friendships

This festive season will reveal to you who your true and loyal friends are, and this is going to prove to be a valuable lesson. Act on it before the month is out so you’re not taking any negative or false fellowships into 2025!

The World is the key card, the totem of endings and life cycles, things running their course, connections withering, loyalties expiring. Let this unfold, it’s a part of life, it’s normal and necessary. The Three of Swords shows your role here is to identify what no longer feels right or is actually a thorn in your side… and simply remove it.

Withdraw, retreat, let go, release, block. The Seven of Cups shows that your instincts and intuitions are on point here, you already kind of know and feel what’s coming and who the people in question are. Let it play out, and act on it.
