Despite this, Gibson’s companion may not face the tragic end that others have suffered. Davies previously affirmed the character’s presence in Gatwa’s second season after Varada Sethu was confirmed to join the 2025 episodes as an additional companion. While Ruby may not be doomed to a fatal end, season 14’s finale could see a rift form between the Doctor and Ruby, explaining why Nicola Coughlan will take on the companion role in 2024’s Doctor Who seasonal special and Gibson’s absence during parts of season 15’s filming.
