Ex-Twitch employees say they know why Dr Disrespect was banned in 2020 (YouTube)

One of the biggest video game personalities on YouTube has said he may give up streaming, after being thrown out of his own developer.

In late 2021, a year and a half after Dr Disrespect was mysteriously banned from Twitch and moved over to YouTube, the popular streamer co-founded his own video games studio called Midnight Society.

The reason for his permanent ban has been the subject of much speculation for years, but recently ex-Twitch employees have come forward and said Dr Disrespect was banned for sexting a minor.

Dr Disrespect has denied the accusation, but the streamer has now been thrown out of his own company, which claims it had to do so in order ‘to maintain our principles and standards’.

‘He got banned because [he] got caught sexting a minor in the then existing Twitch whispers product,’ Cody Connors, one of the ex-employees at Twitch said. ‘He was trying to meet up with her at TwitchCon.’

It was only a few days after this accusation that Dr Disrespect was kicked out of Midnight Society, which in a statement on Twitter said:

‘On Friday evening we became aware of an allegation against one of our co-founder’s Guy Beahm, aka Dr Disrespect. We assumed his innocence and began speaking with parties involved.

‘And in order to maintain our principles and standards as a studio and individuals, we needed to act. For this reason, we are terminating our relationship with Guy Beahm immediately.’

When the allegation flared up last week, and before being sacked by his own company, Dr Disrespect had addressed the accusations, saying:

‘Listen, I’m obviously tied to legal obligations from the settlement with Twitch but I just need to say what I can say since this is the f****** internet. I didn’t do anything wrong, all this has been probed and settled, nothing illegal, no wrongdoing was found, and I was paid.’

While streaming on Monday, Dr Disrespect appeared visibly upset when receiving a message on his phone and said that due to ‘fatigue’ he might take an indefinite break from streaming and social media.

‘I’m just feeling burnt out. Maybe it’s time to start something new, something different. […] I did have a sort of planned vacation coming up, and I think I might just extend that starting today. One of these ‘let’s take a step back,” he said.

Dr Disrespect started streaming in 2015 while still working at Sledgehammer Games, but later left the Call Of Duty developer to livestream full-time on Twitch.

He became one of the platform’s most popular streamers, with millions of fans who followed him to YouTube after his ban in 2020. As of today, Dr Disrespect has 4.73 million subscribers on YouTube.

The Twitch ban was followed by a legal battle between the streamer and Twitch, which concluded with neither side admitting any wrongdoing.

Midnight Society was founded in 2021 by Dr Disrespect, alongside ex-Infinity Ward lead Rob Bowling and Halo Infinite developer Quinn DelHoyo.

The studio is in the process of making a first person extraction shooter called Deadrop, with the latest update suggesting that it’s in the polishing and optimisation stage, with no release date so far.
