Dragon’s Dogma 2, where dragons soar and adventurers seek glory, is all about customization. Through the game’s immersive RPG experience, I’ve traversed expansive landscapes, fought formidable foes, and forged my character into a legend. The game’s approach to character customization stands out both as a source of joy and frustration among the triumphs and challenges of the game – specifically in that I can’t transmog outfits.
Transmogging Is The True End Game
I was immediately drawn to the game’s gender-neutral armor options. Despite the rigid gender norms often imposed in gaming, Dragon’s Dogma 2 gave me the freedom to dress my character however I pleased. As a result of this freedom of expression, I was able to build a character that felt true to myself. It made it more personal to watch Serenity, my Arisen, take action in the game’s cutscenes when he wore softer, more feminine clothing.
The problem? I sometimes found these pieces of armor too weak to wear as I progressed. In modern RPGs, transmogrification allows you to customize your character’s appearance without sacrificing the stats and abilities your gear provides. It’s a crucial element for players like myself who value both form and function in their virtual personas.

The Absence Is Felt
The absence of a transmog system in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is glaring, especially given the game’s diverse armor pieces. There are a lot of options for customization, but a lack of cohesion among them often results in characters that look haphazardly put together, like a patchwork quilt of mismatched gear.
I once found an adorable cape in a cave. In comparison to the longer one I had on, it was shorter and didn’t clip into Arisen’s dress. Unfortunately, the stats on the cute cape were terrible. Watching armor parts clip into one another is one of my biggest pet peeves. After a while, I decided to just take off capes and not benefit from stat bonuses.
My helmets also fell victim to this. In Dragon’s Dogma 2, you can’t hide your helmet. Sorry, but I don’t want to watch my character look like a dunce in their silly, but powerful helmet. I didn’t add those, except for glamorous tiaras.
More Games Should Take Note Of Dragon Dogma 2’s Pawn System
Pawns bring so much more to the table than an extra sword or bow.
Fans, myself included, have been vocal about our desire to see this feature implemented in future updates. Even the modding community has taken matters into their own hands, developing mods to fill the void left by the game’s developers. But for console gamers like myself, mods are not an option, leaving us at the mercy of the developers’ decisions.
As a result, when you summon Pawns to your world by touching a riftstone, you will typically find half-dressed Pawns. There will be male characters who are shirtless showing their buff chests, and female characters who wear completely outdated armor because it’s the cutest. Due to their lack of durability, pawns who were shirtless tanks were not very useful in combat. Seeing so many Pawns lacking armor pieces in this game is more than enough proof that we need a transmog system.
The game’s captivating world and dynamic gameplay practically invite a second playthrough, encouraging new quests and alliances to be forged. It is true that carrying over armor and gear into a new game provides a sense of continuity, but adding a transmog system would elevate the experience even further.
Imagine starting a new game, eager to experience the excitement of combat and the drama of cutscenes, all while knowing that your character can wear the most stylish and expressive outfit they can find. Whether you survive a fight isn’t determined by your stats.
For me, the prospect of replaying the game with a transmog system is irresistible.
