Eamonn Holmes has implied he was having a rough time before his shock split from estranged wife Ruth Langsford.
The former This Morning presenter said he had endured a ‘bad couple of years’ weeks after it was announced TV’s golden couple were divorcing after 14 years of marriage.
The 64-year-old made the comment on today’s GB News after his co-host and friend Isabel Webster urged viewers to vote for him as Best Presenter at the upcoming Tric Awards.
Speaking about his nomination, Isabel said: ‘I would say we’ve got a good chance, we’ve got a strong and loyal audience, and everyone knows we are beat the other breakfast shows at the moment in our category.’
Eamonn added: ‘I’ve had such a bad couple of years, anything would be good, so thank you if you do vote.’
Since splitting from Ruth, 64, Eamonn has reportedly grown close to new female friend Katie Alexander, a divorced mother-of-three who works as a relationship counsellor.
Sources close to Katie claim she’s fallen ‘in love’ with Eamonn after enjoying a ‘string of outings’ with the TV star. It’s said she’s ‘in it for the long haul.’
Ruth, meanwhile, has barely addressed their break-up but appeared not to have a care in the world over Eamonn’s new pal as she cooked up a storm for a girls’ night in at the weekend.
Earlier this month, it was claimed that Eamonn had been showering a close friend – who works as a relationship counsellor and who he’s known for several years – with gifts, leaving Ruth ‘angry’.
It was later said that Ruth was left extremely upset by the discovery of messages sent between her spouse and another woman on his laptop.
‘Ruth was completely taken by surprise when she saw the messages,’ a source told The Sun.
‘She had no idea what had been going on between them. She was devastated. Not only was she very upset but she was also angry.’
The gifts reportedly included tickets to a Beyoncé concert, a visit to Center Parcs and tickets to watch Manchester United at Old Trafford.
At the time, Katie was not said to be a reason for the marriage breakdown.
Eamonn previously addressed his split from Ruth when he returned to GB News for the first time since their joint statement.
‘Just before we move on I would like to thank people for your support for Ruth and I over the last few days as to the news of our separation,’ he said last month.
‘Your support for both of us is very much appreciated.’
As well as his split from Ruth, Eamonn has been dealing with ongoing health issues and was recently pictured using a walking frame and crutches in London.
His chronic pain started after he slipped three discs in 2021 and lost ‘full mobility’.
Eamonn then underwent spinal surgery the following year, which left him off air for almost four months as he recovered.
