Former EastEnders star Tamzin Outhwaite has clapped back after she was spotted flogging T-shirts and posters of herself at a car boot sale.

In a video obtained by The Sun, the Mel Owen actress, 53, was seen being helped to sell the clothing by her boyfriend Tom Child, 33.

In a furious rant on Twitter/X, she has hit out at rumours that she had fallen on hard times following her exit from EastEnders.

‘Our yearly car boot sale is a family tradition. Last Sunday 6 adults & 6 kids met up in our cars and took up almost a whole row,’ she penned.

‘We had the best time. Teaching our kids who range from 15 down to 4 that selling your unwanted toys & clothes is a great way… save money. We had the best time and we are already planning another.

She added: ‘I am currently filming for BBC so I haven’t fallen on hard times, so to shame someone for teaching kids to be resourceful is pretty low. And I would never sell posters of me.

‘My kids made quite a bit of cash as did my brothers & cousin, and with my takings I got us a curry that night. If anyone knows of a great car boot sale we can do next please holla!!!’

She is a mother to two children Florence, 14, and Marnie, ten who shares with her ex-husband and fellow Lucifer star Tom Ellis, 44.

The pair of actors were married between 2006 and 2014, following which Tamzin found happiness again with her current partner, filmmaker Tom Child, 32.

Tamzin played Mel initially between 1998 and 2002. The actress reprised her role a whopping 16 years later, with Mel arriving back in the Square in 2018 – with a son named Hunter.

Hunter was killed after taking a number of Walford residents hostage in the Vic, which led to Mel spiraling out of control. She turned her attention to Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean), and blackmailed her over her affair with Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters).

It all ended in tragedy, however, as Mel was killed after a devastating car crash. While she survived the initial crash, she was later knocked down by an oncoming lorry as a devastated Sharon watched on.

Tamzin admitted that she was sad at the time when Mel died but later revealed that she is now ‘glad’ about the finality of it.

‘At first I was sad that Mel died,’ she told Inside Soap, ‘And now I am pleased because it means the door is closed and it’s done.’

While she says she was very fond of the character she played, Tamzin welcomed the idea that she couldn’t go back.

‘Part of the excitement of being an actor is the uncertainty and not knowing what the next job is,’ she said.
