Elden Ring reclaims its Steam Deck throne as most played game

Elden Ring and Steam Deck share a storied past, with FromSoftware’s RPG frequently scoring high on the official playtime leaderboard for the device. In fact, it hasn’t dropped lower than #7 in the 23 months Valve has been recording and sharing its data. In a tale for the ages, though, it once again finds itself once again ahead of the pack.

Elden Ring hasn’t found itself at the top of the charts since before Steam Deck OLED released, last gracing the position in May 2023. However, with Shadow of the Erdtree taking root in gamers’ homes, it should come as no surprise that this mainstay for the handheld is back on top.

As shared by OnDeck, Valve’s official Steam Deck account for X, we now have our official most played list for June 2024. Elden Ring finds itself among other long-time favourites, some returning after a long period of absence, alongside some fresh faces too.

We don’t expect to see Elden Ring usurped from its throne anytime soon, particularly given how difficult and lengthy Shadow of the Erdtree is. Even so, one should never dismiss the passion of Stardew Valley fans nor the allure of a Hades II update. Alongside this meteoric rise though is the unfortunate fall of Helldivers 2 whose waning popularity finds it at #18 compared to its previous position of #10 in May.

It’s unclear how much the Steam Summer Sale will affect prospective rankings, but we’ll be sure to report on any surprises should they emerge. In the meantime though, don’t miss out on the new built-in game recording function available now for Steam Deck. After all, if you’re bashing your head against an Elden Ring boss (or mob) you might as well have a cool clip to show for it.
