Emma Raducanu looks set for French Open qualifying (Picture: Getty)

British tennis star Emma Raducanu has been denied a wildcard for the French Open and must progress through qualifying to reach the main draw in Paris.

The one-time Grand Slam champion dropped a major hint over her plans when she pulled out of next week’s WTA 500 event in Strasbourg.

The tournament is taking place at the same time as French Open qualifying and it looks like Raducanu will now take part in the latter as she looks to compete at Roland-Garros, unless there are four withdrawals in the main draw.

Raducanu, who is looking to return to the top of women’s tennis after recovering from huge injury problems, has not played since a disappointing first-round exit in Madrid.
