Enermax readies PlatiGemini PSU for ATX 3.1 and ATX12VO standards

Enermax has released its PlatiGemini PSU series featuring the ATX12VO standard alongside the more common ATX 3.1. The idea is to offer a universal solution instead of forcing users into one or the other.

Following the world’s smallest ATX 3.1 PSU, Enermax is launching a new series combining ATX 3.1 and ATX12VO standards. The latter is a simpler and more efficient alternative to the ageing ATX standard that was published back in 1995. It achieves this by removing or transferring other voltages – 3.3V and 5V – from the ATX12VO PSU to the motherboard. This means that your motherboard powers the SATA drives rather than the PSU directly.

Unfortunately, most PC hardware still uses the older ATX format, and it’s difficult to push an entire industry towards ATX12VO. Shifting to a new standard requires you to change your motherboard and power supply to conform. That’s where Enermax comes in with its best-of-both solution. PlatiGemini lets you use your current hardware with the score of transitioning to TX12VO motherboards when they’re more widely available.

Enermax PlatiGemini 1,200W PSU connected using 10-pin cable.

The PlatiGemini series provides up to 1,200W capacity to ensure enough power even for high-end builds. Inside, we find 100% Japanese capacitors cooled by a 135mm fan that only runs when the load surpasses 60%. Additionally, this fan features a cleaning option that rotates it in reverse to remove any accumulated dust.

ATX 3.1 compatibility allows PlatiGemini to handle up to 235% Power Excursion, while rocking an 80 Plus Platinum certification. This also means a native 600W 12V-2×6 connector in addition to the ten-pin motherboard cable that replaces the bulky 24-pin on compatible ATX12VO boards.

Talking of which, the PlatiGemini 1,200W provides two 4+4-pin CPU EPS, one 12V-2×6, three PCIe 6+2-pin for GPUs, eight SATA, four Molex, plus the aforementioned 10-pin and 24-pin. All cables have individual mesh sleeves.

The PlatiGemini 1,200W is available at $249.99 through Amazon and Enermax US stores, backed by a ten-year warranty.
