Manchester United fans are loving the ‘trophy’ task Erik ten Hag set Bruno Fernandes just seconds after the captain signed a new contract extension.

United captain Fernandes has signed a new contract until June 2027 – with the option of a further year – to end speculation over his future at Old Trafford.

But it’s what happened moments after that has gone viral on social media, with a clip of Ten Hag talking to Fernandes as the pair posed for their official pictures.

With the cameras still flashing, one video picked up Ten Hag telling Fernandes: ‘More trophies!’

United supporters have been simply loving that message, and have been reacting to it all over social media, with one Reddit user dubbing Ten Hag a ‘serial winner’.

‘Extremely lucky that the cameras were there to pick up that intimate and inspiring moment,’ a second United fan posted.

A third United supporter said: ‘Erik has won trophies every season since 2018. Not a ton of managers in world football who can match that.’

United face their first match of the 2024-25 Premier League season tonight and Ten Hag is adamant they will be the closest title challengers to Manchester City.

‘We won two trophies (Carabao Cup 2023 and FA Cup 2024), which gave us belief that we are capable of winning,’ the Dutchman said.

‘With the two trophies we won more than any other club, apart from City, in England.

‘We are confident, we have a good team, we have a good squad. We have to be more consistent and we want to win every competition in which we are taking part, definitely also the Premier League.’

Speaking more generally about United’s hopes for the new campaign, Ten Hag added: ‘I am very pleased with the new structure. We are working very good together. The team was always good but I think we can make steps forwards. If we step up and are more clinical in both boxes, then we can be a successful team.’
