Fallout Season 2 Filming Start Month Confirmed By Returning Star

The Fallout show is almost ready to start filming, according to an exclusive New York Comic Con interview. Based on the hit video game series, the show follows dwellers from Vaults 31, 32, and 33, alongside several survivors from the surface. Season 1 focused on the Vaults, the Brotherhood of Steel, and the bounty hunters as they began to uncover the secrets of Vault-Tec. The show premiered in April and aired exclusively on Prime Video. After Fallout season 1 ended with several cliffhangers, season 2 is expected to continue the show’s overall narrative by exploring more about Vault-Tec.

Previously, the only news about season 2 was in August, when it was teased that production would begin “soon“. In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Leslie Uggams offered more insight into the timeline. She explained that the show will officially begin filming in November. Uggams starred as Betty Pearson, the Overseer in Vault 33, who originally hailed from Vault 31, and she will likely maintain a strong presence in the production. Check out her full quote below:

Leslie Uggams:
That is an amazing, amazing show. I am with the Vault People, so I didn’t get to see what the Earth people were doing. So when it came on, I was blown away. But
Betty’s got some things up her sleeve
. Just stay tuned.

Screen Rant:
Have you guys already started shooting season 2?

Leslie Uggams:
We start November. I’m excited about it.

What The Production Timeline Means For Fallout

Season 2’s Timeline Has Been Accelerated

The timeline is surprisingly short, given that the entire first season was released on April 10, 2024. Prime Video did accelerate the timeline somewhat by approving Fallout season 2 just eight days after season 1’s completion. Still, that left approximately half a year to complete the entire script and pre-production work for the upcoming episodes. It was even more compressed, considering that Ella Purnell (Lucy) reportedly had no preparation as of August and believed that she would be working fervently on the show in six months from that point.

Season 1 began filming on July 5, 2022, and the season was eventually released on April 10, 2024.

The quick pre-production timeline can be excused, considering that much of the setting has already been developed. The props, costumes, and sets are all constructed and ready for filming, so there are few major issues in the way. Still, there will be a significant post-production timeline that necessitates a rush to filming. Season 1 began filming on July 5, 2022, and the season was eventually released on April 10, 2024. If season 2 follows a similar track, the next season may not premiere until 2026.

Our Take On Fallout Season 2’s Production Timing

Fallout Season 2 Should Be Simpler Than Season 1

The vast majority of post-production issues will come from VFX work, but there will also be major issues with production. With so many characters in Fallout‘s extensive cast, there will be numerous settings and environments that need to be explored. Hank stole Maximus’ armor, Lucy and the Ghoul are traveling together, Maximus is a prominent figure within the Brotherhood of Steel, and Moldaver is continuing her own efforts with her militia. Even Norm has a storyline of his own, which will need to be explored. With so much left to shoot, Fallout season 2 should have a challenging filming process.
