Film fans have been rocked by an admission about Jennifer Coolidge’s character in American Pie, and everyone feels ‘attacked’.
The raunchy comedy came out in July, 1999, following a group of horny students eagerly attempting to lose their virginities on prom night, before they left high school.
Jason Biggs led the cast as Jim, with Eugene Levy, Alyson Hannigan, Chris Klein, Seann William Scott, Shannon Elizabeth, Mena Suvari and Tara Reid also starring.
Jennifer played the OG MILF Jeanie ‘Stifler’s Mom’ Stifler – the mysterious, much older woman who was the object of everyone’s affections – who eventually slept with Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas).
In recent years, she has enjoyed a renaissance in Hollywood, landing scene-stealing roles in The White Lotus, the Watcher and Shotgun Wedding – but it turns out that her character actually wasn’t that old in the original film.
Phil Clifton sent us all into meltdown when he took to Twitter to drop a massive bombshell, penning: ‘Hey millennials, did you know that the American Pie character Stifler’s mom, aka Jennifer Coolidge, was actually the grand age of *drum roll* …thirty-eight.
‘Have a great day.’
Having absolutely none of it, a social media fan known as Jerm replied: ‘Didn’t think I’d get attacked this early in the morning.’
Joel agreed: ‘As a 38 year old I did not need to hear this today.’
As Timbo added: ‘This is the most attacked I have ever felt.’
Honestly, hard same.
Jennifer previously made headlines when she lifted the lid on the iconic part, claiming that she had slept with 200 people following the film.
‘I got a lot of play at being a MILF and I got a lot of sexual action from American Pie,’ she told Variety. ‘There were so many benefits to doing that movie. I mean, there would be like 200 people that I would never have slept with.’
However, in a later interview with pal Ariana Grande for Entertainment Weekly, she admitted that the number was definitely ‘exaggerated’.
‘I would love to say that was true, but I mean, that was sort of an exaggeration, so I’m glad you’re asking me,’ she added.
‘I did say that jokingly and, God, you really can’t make jokes in our town, because I did make the terrible mistake of saying, “Thank God for that movie, I got to sleep with 200 men,” or whatever.
‘And look, I would love to say that was true, but that was sort of an exaggeration so I’m glad you’re asking me!’
