The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) Wednesday embarked on a mission to empower secondary school students in Benue state.
The goal of FCCPC is to help students understand their rights as consumers and equip them to take action when those rights are violated.
The commission Wednesday visited several secondary schools in Makurdi, including New Covenant Christian College, Government Model Secondary School, Christ Anglican College, and Mount Carmel Girls College.
During the sensitisation visits, Mrs. Olubunmi Otti, Chief Consumer and Business Education Officer at FCCPC stated the importance of forming Young Consumer Clubs.
She added that as students form young consumer clubs, they will have the opportunity to familiarise themselves with their rights and responsibilities.
“The FCCPC organises the National Young Consumer Competition annually for schools. Students who participate are tested on their understanding of consumer rights, and successful participants are invited to join the prestigious 2024 competition.”
Mrs. Otti assured students that the commission has implemented measures to protect consumers and ensure fairness in the market.
