The Federal Government has declared Monday, September 16, 2024, as public holiday to commemorate the Eid-ul-Mawlid, the celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the federal government.
In a statement released by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, on Friday, the minister extended his congratulations to the Muslim Ummah on the occasion.
Tunji-Ojo urged Muslims and all Nigerians to use the holiday as an opportunity to pray for enduring peace and prosperity in the country.
He also called on citizens to embrace the spirit of patience, sacrifice, and resilience, values which are central to the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad.
The minister emphasised the importance of unity, and implored Nigerians to reflect on the principles of justice and equality as the nation continues its journey towards a more prosperous and harmonious future.
