Father and son Ashley and Tyler Young could face each other in the third round of the FA Cup, with the Everton veteran saying: ‘Dreams might come true.’

18-year-old Tyler plays for League One side Peterborough, making his professional debut in an EFL Trophy clash with Stevenage in October.

The Posh beat Notts County 4-3 on Saturday to book their spot in the third round of the FA Cup and Monday’s draw saw them handed a trip to Goodison Park to face Everton.

Former England star Ashley is still going strong for the Toffees at 39 years old and said it would be a dream situation if he got the chance to play against his son.

Reacting to the FA Cup draw, Ashley posted on X: ‘WOW………. Dreams Might Come True 🙏🏾🤞🏾💙#FaCup #GoosebumpsMoment #YoungVsYoung.’

Ashley has started 11 Premier League games for Sean Dyche’s side so far this season so there is every chance he will be involved in the game.

Tyler has made just that one substitute appearance in the EFL Trophy in his Peterborough career so far, which makes it extremely unlikely he would be given the chance to start the FA Cup game.

However, the teenager will be hoping to be given the opportunity for the unusual and emotional opportunity to play against his dad, even if it is just for a few minutes.

The date and time of the Toffees vs Posh clash is yet to be confirmed but the third round is being played over the weekend of 11 January.

There have been a few father-and-son pairs to play together in professional football matches.

The legendary former AC Milan and Barcelona star Rivaldo played alongside his son Rivaldinho for Brazilian second division side Mogi Mirim in 2015.

The 43-year-old and his 20-year-old son both scored in a 3-1 win over Macae.

In English football Ian and Gary Bowyer played for Hereford United together as did Alec and David Herd for Stockport County.

Former Chelsea and Barcelona striker Eidur Gudjohnsen famously replaced his father Arnor for Iceland against Estonia in 1996, but they didn’t actually play together.
