A Four Seasons hotel in Atlanta has been locked down amid reports of shots fired and a gunman barricaded inside.

Police and SWAT team members encircled the hotel in midtown Atlanta on Tuesday afternoon after witnesses said they heard several gunshots.

The suspect is armed, police said.

A man was spotted brandishing a gun at someone in the hotel on an upper floor, sources told WSBTV. Cops spotted the suspect on a balcony but he then went out of sight.

The suspect threw a handgun off the balcony but remained inside, police told the TV station.

Law enforcement officials created a perimeter around the hotel out of an abundance of caution.
