Frozen 3 Is Disney’s Second Chance To Top A Key Part Of The First Movie

Summary

  • Frozen 3
has the opportunity to create a new song like “Let It Go,” topping the first film’s biggest hit.
  • Although
    Frozen 2
had memorable songs, none reached the same level of success as “Let It Go.”
  • Disney doesn’t necessarily need another “Let It Go” for
    Frozen 3
to be a box office success.

Frozen 3 is poised to be a massive success for Disney, but it’s the studio’s second chance to top a key part of the first movie. Frozen 3 is still a long way off, as the Disney sequel isn’t slated to arrive until November 2027. But when the movie does hit theaters, it’s likely to reignite interest in the $2.7 billion franchise — at least if Frozen 2‘s success is anything to go by. The characters alone are enough to draw fans to theaters, especially those who grew up watching the original movie.

Of course, the Frozen franchise’s musical hits are another large part of its success. Both Disney films have soundtracks full of catchy songs, but the first Frozen movie stands out in this regard. It’s hard to say if the franchise will ever capture the magic of a track like “Let It Go” again. Frozen 3 is Disney’s second chance to do so. However, Frozen 2 suggests it might struggle to surpass the first movie in terms of music. And given Frozen 2‘s success, it may not even need to.

None Of Frozen 2’s Songs Were As Much Of A Hit As “Let It Go”

Hits Like “Into The Unknown” & “Show Yourself” Didn’t Reach The Same Heights

Frozen 2‘s soundtrack is incredibly impressive, and several songs became hits after the movie’s release in 2019. “Into the Unknown” and “Show Yourself” highlight Idina Menzel’s talent, and Elsa isn’t the only one to belt out a stunning tune during the second movie. Even Anna’s “The Next Right Thing” is a standout song, even if it’s slower and sadder than the others. However, none of these hits came close to becoming the phenomenon that “Let It Go” was when the first Frozen film hit theaters.

While
Frozen 2
‘s songs were memorable, none reached the heights of the first film’s biggest hit.

“Let It Go” was everywhere when Frozen came out; you’d be hard-pressed to find someone who hadn’t heard it, even if they’d never seen Frozen. “Let It Go” also took home the Oscar for Best Original Song in 2014, and it snagged the Grammy for Best Song Written for Visual Media. Such accolades are a testament to its success. In addition to these accomplishments, “Let It Go” also became Walt Disney Records’ first diamond-certified song after making 10 million sales (via Billboard). While Frozen 2‘s songs were memorable, none reached the heights of the first film’s biggest hit.

Frozen 3 Means Disney Has Another Chance At A “New Let It Go”

Disney Has Years To Plan & Perfect Its Approach To The Sequel

With Frozen 3 happening, Disney has another shot at matching the success of “Let It Go.” The studio has years to plan and perfect its approach to the next Frozen sequel, which means it could surpass Frozen 2 when it comes to its story and soundtrack. Although Frozen 2 is one of Disney’s best sequels to date, some considered it a disappointment compared to the first film. Frozen 3 can rectify this, bringing the franchise back to its original glory — and getting its music stuck in everyone’s heads yet again.

We haven’t had a proper collaboration between Menzel and Kristen Bell, and that could prove compelling enough to beat Elsa’s solo bop.

It’s hard to say how Frozen 3 can accomplish this, but it would likely need to match “Let It Go” with another hit sung by Menzel. The emotion she puts into her performances simply can’t be matched, and she hits high notes in many of her best songs. Of course, Frozen 3 could attempt to top “Let It Go” with a song sung by Elsa and Anna. Disney Doesn’t Really Need A New “Let It Go” (& Frozen 2 Proves It)

Frozen 3 Can Succeed Without Surpassing The First Film

Elsa, Anna, Kristoff and Sven embrace Olaf in Frozen 2.

Although there are ways for Frozen 3 to top the original film, it really doesn’t need to. Frozen 2 grossed a whopping $1.4 billion at the global box office (via The Numbers), surpassing the amount made by its predecessor. It did this without including a phenomenon like “Let It Go.” With that in mind, Frozen 3 can do the same. If it fails to top “Let It Go,” it may not take home as many accolades as the first film. However, it can still bring in a massive box office haul, proving a success for Disney.

The most important thing is that Frozen 3 features an impressive soundtrack, even if none of its songs land quite as well as “Let It Go.” This is part of the reason Frozen 2 is still such a hit. Songs like “Into the Unknown” and “Show Yourself” boosted the film’s popularity, ensuring it still stuck with viewers. The fact that people love Anna and Elsa also guarantees that any Frozen sequel will be a success for Disney. Needless to say, Frozen 3 shouldn’t worry too much about competing with the previous films.
