Eagle-eyed fans of the Simpsons were less than impressed to spot a very rare error in a question about their beloved show while watching the latest episode of Jeopardy!
The cartoon has been on our screens for more than 30 years, with hundreds of episodes focusing on Homer Simpson and his adventures with wife Marge and their three children – Bart, Lisa and Maggie.
The series has become a staple of the small screen and still commands huge ratings with every instalment, with viewers picking up on every tiny prediction, plot hole and Easter egg.
However, many were surprised to find a mistake about the animated series in Wednesday’s instalment of the quiz show, in a question about Sideshow Bob.
Music executive Troy Meyer took on the category ‘Real Names of Unreal People’ and was presented with the query, ‘Robert Underdunk Terwilliger is the real name of this vengeful The Simpsons character.’
Although Troy got the question right, and banked $600 for his efforts, fans spotted an issue with the question.
Taking to Twitter, Kevin Sanders shared a screenshot from the question and tagged Simpsons writer Bill Oakley in his post, penning: ‘Onderdonk erasure. They’ll live to regret this.’
Quoting the tweet, Bill confirmed: ‘Yes @Jeopardy you made a rare mistake. It’s “Onderdonk”. And @Joshstrangehill and I are certain cause we wrote that script. Cc: @KenJennings.’
While the official Jeopardy! account and Ken Jennings have yet to publicly acknowledge the error, fans confessed that they had also made a similar mistake with the spelling.
Bob Germanovich replied: ‘Wow, a Simpsons thing that both Jeopardy and I have continuously gotten wrong in exactly the same way.’
Chris Morgan joked: ‘Next thing you know they’ll be calling Bart’s teacher “Crandall.”’
Others revealed that there was a misspelling in the subtitles on the actual show, sharing screenshots where Sideshow Bob was named ‘Robert Underdunk Terwilliger’.
‘I think closed captioning spells it with a U though,’ Patrick Lindsey shared.
As Andrew Jordan added: ‘Interesting, because it’s spelled “Underdunk” in the subtitles. Maybe it’s because the line is spoken by Quimby?’
Will Sideshow Bob ever get justice?
Kelsey Grammer, who voices the iconic character, is one of the famous faces who has appeared on the Celebrity Jeopardy! spin-off in the past, with Martha Stewart, Jodie Foster, Ashton Kutcher and Ray Romano also taking part.
But one famous face is devastated that she has never been called up to take part in the main competition, despite applying every single year.
Emma Stone couldn’t help but note her love of Jeopardy! during an appearance on Variety’s Award Circuit Podcast, and insisted that she wants to ‘earn her stripes’.
‘That’s my favorite show,’ she told the host. ‘That’s my dream, I apply every June.
‘I don’t want to go on Celebrity Jeopardy! I really want to earn my stripes.
‘I would like to go on real Jeopardy! but you have to take the test and you can only take it once a year with your email address.
‘So every June, I take the quiz and they don’t tell you how you did. They just say, “We’ll let you know in the next nine-12 months if you got on the show.” Guess what, I haven’t got on the show.
‘I watch it every single night and I mark down how many answers I get right. I swear, I could go on Jeopardy!’
