A good game
I’ve beaten the Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 story campaign over the weekend and I’ve got to say it’s really pretty good. I think It’s probably the best since the Xbox 360 era, which isn’t putting it up against much in terms of quality but it really is good: over-the-top arcade action, ludicrous story and set pieces, and no annoying gimmicks getting in the way.
The only real problem is that Call Of Duty has been done so many times at this point that it can’t help but feel a bit derivative, but at least it doesn’t have an oil rig in it. I even quite liked the characters, and I felt the recent historical setting just about worked. It’s maybe a bit disrespectful, considering people involved in the Gulf War are still alive, but I don’t think it went over the line.
Because I was concentrating on that I haven’t played much of multiplayer or Zombies (well, I never really play Zombies) but I’m not expecting much new there. You can criticise Call Of Duty in terms of its domination, and definitely last year’s game, but as far as I can see Black Ops 6 is a good game.

Crazed for cash
I have been playing the Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 campaign and may I say it’s a very good campaign. Up there with Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2. I have been exploring all the levels to find cash, so I can upgrade my stuff.
After finishing the Iraq mission (the palace) I went back to the safe house and I upgraded everything, as I had this much money. Even though I have all that money I am still exploring the levels, just in case I miss something and, yes, I am still collecting cash if I see it. Not that I need it.

Subscription pass
If Xbox think Call Of Duty is going to help Game Pass I think they’re going to be very upset. They have now put it behind a pay wall of £14.99 a month, that’s £180 a year. You can buy the thing for £70 and I’m sorry but I’ve played Call Of Duty from the first one and Call Of Duty fans mainly play only Call Of Duty. If they only play one or even two games why wouldn’t they buy the game outright, at £70, and keep £110 in their pocket over a year?
Maybe I’m wrong but I think Call Of Duty won’t help Game Pass one bit and they have spent $75.4 billion for Game Pass for nothing.

Very good deals
Very have the full fat PlayStation 5 console with disc drive for £424 but if use Very Pay (their credit system) you get 10% back, making it £382. Not sure if free click and collect or about £4 postage.
Pay it off in full a week after receiving it, so no interest. This is for anyone, not just first time Very Pay users. No, I do not work for Very. I just like passing on deals if this is a deal.
The Digital Edition is £334, so 10% if you use Very Pay equals £301.

Thanks to Nick the Greek for his advice on Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom. I have to admit that I don’t make use of meals and elixirs very much and I think this has to do with my playing habits. I am very much a casual gamer these days; my play sessions are restricted to one to two hours a few times a week.
Consequently, when I do play, I like to accomplish something, not run around collecting ingredients to cook things to buff myself up (ditto to upgrading armour and clothing, by the way). With all the side quests, there is so much to do in the game already, I feel this is just unnecessary padding.
My biggest problem though is simply my lack of skill and dexterity which, unfortunately, no one can help me with!

Thank you for your review of Kill Knight. I love twin stick shooters and there hasn’t really been a good one since Nex Machina. Like most people, this one had slipped under my radar, so thanks for bringing it to light.
Whilst on the Switch eShop to purchase Kill Knight I noticed the Konami 1990s beat ‘em-up Metamorphic Force on the Arcade Archives label was released on Thursday. I’d not played this since I was a teenager at seaside amusement arcades.
As far as I know this is the first time this game has been released outside of the arcades to home consoles. I very much recommend it to fans of other Konami beat ‘em-ups like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and X-Men. This one has massive colourful sprites, an amazing soundtrack and an Altered Beast style feature of you collecting power ups to transform into a more powerful beast. It would be nice if Violent Storm and Bucky O’Hare also saw an Arcade Archives release in the future.

GC: Violent Storm seems likely, but Bucky O’Hare would require them to pay for the show licence, which they’re probably not going to do.
Reasonable size
That Yooka-Replaylee trailer is certainly an interesting thing. Either Playtonic are now on Nintendo’s hitlist or they really do know what’s going on, which means so do most other reasonable-sized indie developers.
I’d say I’m surprised that nobody has leaked anything out yet but considering Nintendo would never work with you again, and the Switch is so important for indie games, it’s basically ruining your career for 15 minutes of internet fame.
Even so, if that many people know what the Switch 2 is about there’s no way that Nintendo is going to let this go on for multiple months. My bet is on a reveal within the next four weeks.

A difficult subject
On the subject of being suicidal, I was there five years ago, luckily I had a friend who saw it and got me locked up with the men in white coats for a month while they figured me out. People that are suicidal don’t want to kill themselves, they just want ‘it’, whatever that ‘it’ is to end and they can’t see any other way out.
I was playing Octopath Traveller at the time and I’ve only recently had the courage to go back to it, for fear it might stir up old memories.
I’ve since got over that hurdle and am now at this moment enjoying the game.
I started playing Breath Of Fire 2 on the Switch while I was in there, although it was only for a couple of hours a day as they wouldn’t let me have the charger for fear of what I might do with the lead, so I resorted to books.
Games are a massive distraction from reality, and they don’t get enough credit for that.
For anyone that feels that way? Trust me, there are some very good people out there that will help you through it. I’m still receiving treatment to this day through the NHS (who I work for).
I can’t commend them enough.
Over the last five years I’ve had a lot happen to me and my kids and its only now I realise why I’m still here.
My point is, games are a great distraction but get help if you feel you need it.

Due to real life stuff I was bit late to see Alien: Romulus. May I ask what you think, GC? I enjoyed it, quite a lot. The tech in particular was done well. But I will probably never watch it again, whereas the same can’t be said of the first two films. Or Prometheus.

GC: The production design was very good, as you say. We enjoyed the first 40 minutes or so and mostly hated the rest – but that’s still better than we were expecting.
I have a couple of codes to giveaway for games I got free on Prime and already own to pass on to any readers that want them. Doom Eternal on the Microsoft Store, which I believe will give the game on PC and Xbox, and Bioshock Remastered on GOG.
