Gavin and Stacey star Alison Steadman has opened up about the upcoming Christmas special, revealing a key cast member who she understands will be in the cast.
Earlier this month, James Corden and Ruth Jones finally – and officially – confirmed that a new festive episode was on the cards for 2024 on the BBC after months of speculation.
In a post shared on Instagram, the writing duo penned: ‘Some news… It’s official!!! We have finished writing the last ever episode of Gavin and Stacey. See you on Christmas Day, BBC One. Love Ruth and James ❤️.’
Ever since the announcement, fans have been speculating what could happen in the final ever episode, with many predicting that we’ll find out what happened when Nessa (Ruth) got down on one knee to propose to Smithy (James).
On top of that, viewers have been wondering which of the original cast members will be making a return.
In a new interview, Alison, who plays Pam in the sitcom, dropped a major tease.
The actress, who stars as the mother of Mathew Horne’s Gavin on the BBC show, said: ‘I know it’s going to happen. I just haven’t seen the script – none of us has seen the script.’
When asked by The Mirror if her co-star Larry Lamb will be joining her – who plays Pam’s husband Mick – she added: ‘As far as I know, yes. We only found out [it was happening] for definite the other day.’
Alison, 77, shed further light on how close she is to her fellow cast members, revealing that they’re on a WhatsApp group, which is ‘nice’.
‘It’s a wonderful series. It’s so nice that it’s so popular. I feel very privileged and very lucky to have been given that chance,’ she stated.
Despite what Alison had to say about her on-screen husband, mere weeks before it was confirmed that Gavin and Stacey was returning, Larry, 76, shut down speculation of a reunion.
‘What is occurring? Well they’re not telling us for sure,’ he quipped on Loose Women.
He then remarked: ‘If I had to bet, right now, I’d say not but I’m not very good at gambling so…’
Perhaps Larry was just showing off his very impressive poker face?
Gavin and Stacey is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
