Proprietary expansion cards are a miracle for those who don’t want to rummage under the Xbox Series X or S hood. Held back by an eye-watering cost at launch, they showed that convenience certainly came with a price tag. However, while internal SSDs are, once again, subject to inflation, these practical parts are thankfully trending in the other direction.
Currently, Seagate’s 1TB expansion card is 49% cheaper at £138.99 on Amazon UK. If you take a peek at CamelCamelCamel’s tracking site, it shows this as the best price it’s ever been, but that’s not quite true. Once upon a time, we saw the original listing reach £125.99, but it hasn’t been that low for some time. Needless to say, once this limited-time deal ends, you probably won’t see it come around again for months.

This discount is unique to Blighty, but there are a few savings elsewhere. Amazon Italy chops 32% off the price, bringing the card down to €149.90. Germany also gets the device 31% cheaper at €144.74. And, finally, Amazon US pushes the price down to $149.99, slimming it down 6%.
Even nearly four years later, Seagate’s Expansion cards are the top choice for Xbox Series X external storage solutions. They perform just as snappy as the best SSDs, and they’re currently only rivalled by WD_Black 1TB C50. With the current discount, however, Seagate takes the cake as the cheapest of both options.
Xbox expansion cards do remain pricey compared to M.2 upgrade options for Sony’s PlayStation 5, yet there is something to be said for the convenience of a plug-and-play solution, and if you’ve been waiting for prices to drop, now seems a good time to bite.
Seagate’s 2TB model has also come down to a more palatable £227.07 / $249.99 / €260. With no direct competition at the higher capacity, we don’t imagine pricing will change significantly in the months ahead.
