Ghost of Tsushima system requirements demand a beefy PC for 4K

Sony has unveiled the Ghost of Tsushima system requirements ahead of its PC release on May 16. The good news is that the game will run on a wide range of systems. The bad news is that you’re going to need quite a beefy PC if you wish to achieve 4K at 60fps.

In order to reach those lofty UHD heights, you require nothing less than an Intel Core i5-11400 or AMD Ryzen 5 5600 CPU. That seems reasonable enough until you see the GPU spec requirements. You’re going to need at least an Nvidia RTX 4080 or AMD RX 7900 XT to run 4K max settings. Those are rather beefy graphics card requirements for a game that originally launched on the PS4. Credit where it’s due, though: it is a Director’s Cut special. This is the best possible version of the game, with optimisations, ultrawide screen support, and everything in between.

Additionally, you’ll also need 75GB of free space on your PC. Developers at Sucker Punch Productions recommend an SSD, although the notes state that you can use an HDD. However, based on Nixxes Software’s previous port, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, I’d strongly recommend you stick with a solid state. As per Digital Foundry’s past findings, Rift Apart struggled quite a bit on an age-old HDD. Last but not least, you’re going to need at least 16GB of memory across all resolutions except for 720p.

In addition to ultrawide screen support and triple-monitor setups, this port will also support Nvidia DLSS 3, FSR 3, and Intel Xess at launch. These should hopefully alleviate any potential fps woes no matter which brand GPU you run.

Of note, Ghost of Tsushima is the first PC port from PlayStation Studios to utilise a new PlayStation Overlay. This UI grants users access to their PlayStation Profile, allowing for features like Trophies, Friends lists, and cross-play. For now, the UI looks very simplistic, which leads me to believe there might be additional features in the future. Hmm, PlayStation Plus, perhaps? I do like the fact that it is entirely optional and not a separate launcher like say, Ubisoft, or EA.

The port is part and parcel of Sony’s continued efforts to bring its PlayStation titles to PC. We’ve received at least 14 first-party titles from the likes of Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, and Bend Studios, to name but a few. These games have become immensely popular on the platform, and we might even get support for PSVR 2 titles in the future. What a time to be alive.
