Good Morning Britain star Narinder Kaur has apologised for offence caused after sparking backlash over a tweet she posted about Kate Middleton.

On Sunday, the Princess of Wales joined other members of the royal family to attend the annual Remembrance Day service at the Cenotaph war memorial in Westminster, to commemorate members of the British and Commonwealth armed forces who have died while fighting in wars.

Following her appearance at the ceremony, Narinder wrote a tweet commenting on Kate’s ‘ageing’ and questioning if she’s a smoker.

The TV personality was criticised for her remark, with people pointing out that the royal, 42, announced this year that she had been diagnosed with cancer and was undergoing preventative chemotherapy.

Narinder shared a tweet in response to the criticism – which has now been deleted – in which she admitted that the remark that she made was ‘stupid’ and ‘insensitive’.

‘I put out a tweet earlier. A genuine ask about why Kate Middleton had aged so much. It was genuinely – an ask. I thought she was perhaps a smoker,’ she wrote.

‘It was, on reflection, a stupid, insensitive tweet. More so because someone who lost her brother to cancer should have known better.’

Following her apology, Narinder shared another tweet stressing that she had received ‘racial abuse’ from other X users over her tweet.

In a video posted on the social media platform on Monday, she emphasised that it hadn’t been her ‘intention’ to ‘put out a stupid tweet’ about the Princess of Wales.

‘My intention was not to be malicious or nasty or anything. I’m not like that, anybody who knows me. It was stupid to ask about the ageing, I’ve admitted that, and I put my hands up, and I’ve apologised if it caused offence,’ she stated.

‘The only people who were offended though, because many people on Twitter and social media have asked exactly what I’ve asked and but did not receive the sexual, racial, violent abuse that I did from accounts with EDL flags, Union Jacks, disgusting abuse.’

Narinder explained that her brother ‘went through brutal treatment of chemo’ when he was suffering from cancer before his death, as she stressed that she wouldn’t have made remarks about Kate’s appearance with regard to her cancer diagnosis.

The media personality, who has also appeared on TV shows including the BBC’s Sunday Morning Live and Jeremy Vine on 5, added that a lot of the critical comments that she received were about Meghan Markle, as she asked: ‘What’s Meghan got to do with it?’

She accused her critics of ‘pitting Kate against Meghan’, as she blasted their ‘disgusting’ comments that they directed at her.

‘You exposed your narrative. You exposed that what this was all about was I as a brown woman, an Indian, had the gall to criticise Kate’s appearance,’ she said to the camera.

‘I’m not going anywhere. I’m not leaving the country. I’m gonna continue. You can keep cancelling me as much as you like, but you will not silence my voice just because I’m a brown woman, and it is that, and you will never convince me otherwise.’
