The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party in Ibadan, Mr Benedict Akika from his residence in Olorunda Abba, Lagelu Local Government Area.
SP Adewale Osifeso, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, revealed this on Thursday to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), noting that investigations have commenced into the kidnap.
According to the NAN, the incident happened on Tuesday evening, has left the community in a state of panic .
“Investigation has commenced into the matter. Updates will be provided accordingly,” Osifeso assured, while stressing the police’s commitment to resolving the case.
It was noted that the abduction as a well-coordinated attack, during which the gunmen overpowered Akika’s security personnel before whisking him away in a vehicle.
“The gunmen overpowered his security personnel and whisked him away in a vehicle, leaving behind a trail of panic and confusion in the community,” an eyewitness told NAN.
