Gunmen Kill Four Policemen, POS Operator In Imo

Tragedy struck on Monday evening as four police officers on a stop and search patrol along Owerri-Onitsha were killed by gunmen.

Also, a point of sell operator was also killed by the gunmen.

A resident of the area revealed that some pedestrian around the scene were hit by stray bullet and have been rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

He said, “The gunmen stormed Blossom Hotel police checkpoint, near SaveMore Market Place Irete around 6:30pm or thereabout and shot sporadically at the policemen on stop and search duty, killing four officers on duty.

“They also shot dead a female Point Of Sale operator and some pedestrians. It was horrific. All the people around ran away for fear of being hit by stray bullets.

“This road has become a soft spot for them. Last time, they also shot dead several policemen on duty and civilians. Government should beef up security in this area to forestall further occurrences.”

The Command’s Spokesperson, Henry Okoye promised to revert when contacted.
